Jisoo lost me that night with the excuse that she was with Rosé, but she wouldn't run away any longer.
At least I intended to intercept her before she caught the train home for Christmas. I seriously thought about staying at school and trying to talk to Jennie. I wanted to show her that I hadn't given up and that after that kiss, I would fight until the end. But then I remembered her face when she didn't want me to come any closer. I didn't even touch her.
Worst of all, I was happy. I had spent years watching her, and suddenly I found myself the target of her trust, a trust she didn't place in anyone else. I liked being friends with her, I really did, but after that kiss, I felt so good, I felt... in love. I loved her, and that was a fact. Can you imagine my disappointment when she didn't want me to touch her?
"Somi didn't show up to class!"
I thought, at first, that it was Mingyu, worried that Monday, but it was Jisoo. She was serious and had a suspicious look. I smiled; at least I wouldn't have to look for her to have our conversation.
"I was waiting for you!" I looked at her firmly. "We need to talk!"
"No, we don't!" she replied. "Do you know where Kim is?"
"We need to, and you know it! You lied to me!" I accused her, seriously.
"I didn't lie, at least not about the whole story!" she said exasperatedly. "And I told this story to everyone anyway!"
"You mean no one knows you were there?" I was confused. "Not even your uncle?"
"No!" she took a deep breath. "I never told anyone what I did! The only one who knew anything was Josh, and they erased his memory!"
"Did you hurt her?" I knew the question was unexpected, but I was so confused.
"No!" she sighed. "I never laid a finger on her to hurt her! Just... alright! I'm going to tell everything, but I want to tell everyone! I can't deal with this anymore, especially now that Jennie has started to trust me a little!"
"When?" I couldn't miss the chance, not really.
"On Christmas Eve!" she decided. "At my house! Jennie is going home for Christmas and even bought presents!"
"She's going home?" I was surprised. "I helped her buy gifts, but she didn't want to go home, unless..."
"To get away from you!" Jisoo grimaced. "Look, I know what I did was wrong, but... I want Jennie back! And I think the only way she'll really come back is with your help! So I broke into her dorm, which is a few floors above the girls' dorm, because, you know, she has the prefects' room..."
"How did you do that? As far as I know, no one can break into the prefects' dorms!" I furrowed my eyebrows thoughtfully.
"You can't actually break in, but you can get in if you're invited!" she sighed. "Somi helped us too! Anyway, we got Jennie's diary! She hasn't written much these past few days! In fact, most of the pages have been blank since she hugged you that night in the hallway!"
"She didn't write about me?" I was sad about that; I imagined she would like to vent, to say that she liked me or that she laughed again that day. "Nothing? Didn't she really write anything?"
"Nothing!" She took a black notebook with red dots from her backpack and started leafing through it. "The funny thing is that she was venting a lot before that! Of course, I didn't read it because I don't care to know that, but on the night of Saturday to Sunday, at three o'clock in the morning, she wrote a single sentence after months of not writing anything!"
