"Jennie, I just wanted you to understand...
Look, I'm sorry! I just wanted to try and say...
I know I was wrong, but it's what I think and...
I was an idiot and... I miss you so much, but I wanted you to know... "
Ugh, I give up!
A week without talking to her. A week that felt like I had lost my soul in that damn fight I started. Was I really that much of an idiot? Seriously, I had my reasons to make her see what was in front of her! My God, I'm not like that! I only act this way with her, but I'm getting tired of being the nice one! Not that I'm going to hurt her, far from it, but is it too much to ask for her to fall in love with who I truly am?
I think I've made my life a living hell. I need her, that's a fact. I love her, another fact. I just need to find a way for her to understand that I need to go back to being who I was, but that I still love her with all my heart, body, and soul.
"Lisa?"
Mingyu was standing next to me. It was the first time I had seen him away from Somi since they entered that makeshift clinic in town. I was already missing my friend.
"Sit down." I made room for him on the bench.
I watched Jennie enter the cafeteria accompanied by Jisoo. She gave Rosé, who was already leaving, a quick peck and then followed Jisoo to their group's table. For now, I would content myself with just looking at her during breakfast.
"I think it's better not to." Mingyu took a deep breath and handed me the newspaper. "Read it calmly."
I looked at him, confused, then glanced around the hall. Everyone was watching me seriously. Jennie was standing, holding the same newspaper, reading nonstop.
I took the newspaper Mingyu handed me and glanced at the page title. Accidents and Disasters of the Week. A long time ago, this page was renamed from Murders. But today, it featured the story of an unsolved murder.
"...Henry Kim, police chief, and Hector Kim, his brother and right-hand man, scheduled a private meeting with Marcus Manoban and his wife at their residence right after lunch yesterday. The police squad was quickly recruited as soon as the first two arrived at the famous billionaire family mansion. Inside, the two owners lay dead in their living room. There were no signs of blood or poison, and the only missing items were their personal documents. The police are fully investigating the case but have had no success so far. We can only wait to discover the motive for such revenge, after all, they were Manobans, and most still hated them..."
I don't know if I managed to read or was just staring at the newspaper, but it didn't sink into my mind, not that way. My parents weren't dead. There was no way they could be. I had spoken to my father the previous week, and Jennie's father and uncle had promised to protect them. They were fine.
"Lisa?" Mingyu called again, and I looked up at him. "Are you okay?"
"I...I'm going to talk to my dad..." I don't even know why I said that to him, but I did.
He looked at me and took a deep breath, feeling sorry for me. Then I left without even looking back.
I went down the stairs and entered my room without checking if anyone was in front of me. I opened my suitcase and searched everywhere, but all I found were shards of plastic, glass, battery, and chip.
