I knew it wouldn't be long before we were called to the principal's office after Jennie sent a letter to her father. But I wished it would take longer. For the first time since I really got to know Jennie, I feared for the next day. Not for myself, not for her. I feared for my father because he would be blamed one way or another. That's what always happened with the Manoban family.
It was still early morning when Miss Simon woke me up and led me to the principal's office. Jennie was already there, as were her father and her uncle. They looked at me inquisitively but said nothing. Jisoo was curled up in a corner, Rosé hugging her tightly, scared, and further back, there were about four police officers.
"Miss Manoban, Miss Kim told us that you received a message from your father to contact us." The principal motioned for me to come closer. "The Kim brothers confirm Miss Park's story due to their suspicions and are asking what is wrong with your father."
"He's not guilty," I hurried to say, looking at Jisoo's father. "He asked me to call him, said it was important that I stay close to you and that you resolve this whole story! My father is only defending himself, taking care of my mother and me!"
"Calm down, Miss Manoban, we're not judging your father," it was Jennie's father who spoke. "We just want to know if your father confirms the story."
"He does, yes. Rosé is Yang Hyun Suk's daughter, made in a lab, probably illegally," I lowered my head and sighed. "She was raised by mobsters, and her mission was to torment Jisoo, to destroy your family. But she didn't want that."
"Was she raised with you?" Jisoo's father looked at the blonde in his daughter's arms. She didn't show her face, but I could see by the rise and fall of her shoulders that she was crying.
"No, I never met her, but I knew something was wrong as soon as she got close to us!" I sighed. Jennie looked at me supportively, and I knew that whatever happened, she would be by my side. "I just pieced it together and found out when she told Jisoo the whole story, or part of it."
"Who is behind this, besides your father?" he continued with the questions. I felt trapped in an interrogation where I only knew my father's name.
"I don't know... my father didn't tell me anything about that, he just asked me to tell you!" I shrugged. "I don't think she'll hurt anyone!"
"Young YG didn't seem like someone who could hurt anyone either." Mr. Kim continued to stare at the blonde. "We need to investigate this story more deeply; she will have to come with us, miss," he decided, informing the principal.
"No."
I thought it was the principal or Jennie. But the refusal came from Jisoo. She stared at her father resolutely. She wouldn't let them take the blonde away.
"My daughter, try to understand..." her father tried to approach, but she stepped back a few steps and held the blonde even tighter against her.
"I promised I would take care of her, I won't break my promise!" she sighed heavily. "I believe in her, Dad, she won't hurt me! She doesn't want to do this!"
"We need to do tests, check her psychological state, tests and more tests, it's better that she comes with us!" Her father tried to be accommodating, tried not to mix feelings too, but he was failing at that.
"You won't take her. If you take her, forget that I'm your daughter."
"Don't say such a thing!" The man seemed bitter, not liking the answer.
