Jennifer's POV:
The clock hit 8 in the morning. I entered my office and put my belongings on the table. Then, I got a call from the boss.
"Bring my today's meetings' files to my office right now."
He said in urgency.
"Okay, sir."
I replied.
"Hurry up, come over in a minute."
He stressed.
I grabbed the file and headed to the boss's office. The elevator was busy, so I waited briefly, before taking the stairs and rushing up to the top floor.
The office's door was open, and the boss stood near the window with both hands in his pockets. His gaze was affixed outside. The room was silent except for the faint hum of the city outside.
He was wearing a black suit, and his hair was neatly combed. It seemed that he was in his own reverie.
I knocked on the door and asked.
"May I come in, sir?"
His response, granted furiously, was a terse.
"Come in! Why are you so late?"
He asked, remaining in the same position. Frustration evident in his tone.
"Sir, the lift was..."
I began, but he didn't listen and interrupted, saying.
"I don't like to hear excuses. When I say come in a minute, it means you have to come."
My gaze was fixed on the floor. Again, I tried to explain.
"But sir, I..."
I began, but before I could continue, he interrupted again by saying.
"Stop right there. I want work, not some lame excuses."
His voice filled with anger.
"But sir the lift..."
Again I tried to explain myself.
He abruptly turned toward me and shouted."Shut up, just shut the..."
He paused instantly.
I looked up and froze. The world around me stilled all at once.
I couldn't move, couldn't hear, couldn't breathe. My entire body became numb, my eyes still and my mouth wide open. Tears gather up in my eyes, blurring my vision. I tried to speak, but my tongue failed me. My words got stuck in my throat.I kept looking at him with saucer eyes. His eyes locked onto mine. We stared at each other without blinking. Seconds stretched into eternity as the world around us faded into insignificance.
"A-A-Aaron!"
I finally stuttered out. Still, he remained silent, his unwavering gaze fixed on me.
"Aaron, where have you been all these years?"
I asked, tears now streaming down my face.
"Where were you?"
I stuttered, my voice breaking. Desperation filled my tone as I asked again.
He took one step toward me, then stopped abruptly. His cold demeanour returned, and his eyes became emotionless, dark, and cold once more. His posture stiffened, as if something hit him like a brick.
"Who are you, and who is Aaron?"
He asked coldly.
"A..Aar...."
