Aaron's POV....
I was sitting in my office, the dim light from the cloudy afternoon filtering through the blinds. The room was quiet, save for the low hum of the air conditioning.
I was there, physically present, but my mind was far away, drifting through the tangled web of my thoughts. One question kept echoing, louder with each passing second: What did I do wrong?
Why does life always play with me like this? It felt like fate had singled me out for disappointment. I had lost her again. The thought weighed heavy on my chest, making it harder to breathe. She doesn’t want my love anymore.
Even though, I knew she didn't want me, but I couldn’t let her go. I can’t live without her. The helplessness washed over me.
A sharp knock on the door pulled me from my trance. I blinked, my eyes refocusing as the world around me snapped back into clarity.
“Sir, may I come in?” A soft voice interrupted my swirling thoughts. I blinked, dragging myself back to the present, and looked up.
Amelia, my new PA, stood just inside the door. It had been 20 days since Jenny had left. Twenty long days, and she hadn’t come back since. Olivia, wasted no time in finding someone to replace her, but no one could replace what Jenny meant to me.
Amelia was capable, maybe even perfect for the job, but she wasn’t Jenny. No matter who walked through that door, my eyes always searched for my Angel. I still clung to the faint hope that one day, Jenny would walk back into my life, just as she had before, like an angel, lifting me out of the darkness. She had done it once, and perhaps, by some miracle, she would again.
“Sir? May I come in?” Amelia repeated, and it only irritated me more.
“I believe you already did,” I snapped, the frustration in my voice clear as I rolled my eyes and rose from my seat. The room felt suffocating, and her presence, though harmless, was an unwanted distraction. I wasn’t in the mood for talk. Not today. Not ever, lately.
Ever since Jenny had left, the constant buzz of the world around me had become intolerable. Conversations, questions, the sound of my phone ringing, all of it irritated the hell out of me. I felt like a ticking time bomb, ready to go off at any moment. Talking to anyone these days felt like rubbing salt on an open wound.
I just wanted to be left alone, lost in my thoughts, where no one could disturb me, and I could still imagine Jenny coming back to me.
Amelia stood quietly, sensing my mood but unsure of what to do. I could see the unease in her eyes. I knew I was being unfair, but I couldn’t bring myself to care.
"Sir, the meeting with Mr. Norman is starting in 5 minutes," she said, her voice calm but tinged with hesitation as she stood near my desk, tablet in hand.
"Cancel the meeting," I replied curtly, not averting my gaze from the window.
"But sir, they've already arrived. They're waiting in the conference room," she added, clearly uncomfortable with the situation.
I clenched my jaw, cutting her off. "I said cancel," I repeated, my voice low and tight with frustration.
She blinked, momentarily taken aback by my tone, then nodded quickly and turned to leave.
"Call Olivia," I added coldly as she reached the door.
"Sure, sir," she answered, disappearing down the hall.
I remained by the window, staring out at the city skyline, my thoughts in disarray, when I heard the soft click of the door opening behind me. Olivia entered, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor.
"What happened now?" she asked, folding her arms before leaning against the wall, watching me.
"Arrange a new PA She’s just… dumb," I muttered, still looking out the window. I could feel Olivia’s eyes on me.
She sighed. "What are you doing, seriously? What do you want?" she demanded, stepping closer. "You've gone through 15 PAs in 20 days. What are you trying to do? Are you testing how quickly you can drive them all away?" Her voice carried edge of frustration.
I turned, finally facing her. "I just don’t like any of them," I said, the words sounding hollow even to me.
"I know why you're acting like this. She's not coming back, no matter what," Olivia said firmly, her voice steady.
"I know," I muttered, barely audible.
"Fine. I'll arrange the new one, as you wish," she replied, her tone colder now, frustration simmering beneath the surface.
Her disappointment was evident, but I couldn’t do anything about it. My reactions felt like they weren’t even mine. The heaviness in my chest, the numbness in my hands, it was all involuntary. I felt trapped in a cycle I couldn’t break.
Olivia turned as if to leave, but paused midway, her back still toward me. I didn’t turn around. I couldn’t. The window felt like my only escape, a fragile barrier between me and the storm brewing inside.
"You should forget her, She still loves him, and he still loves her. They are still together, I don't understand why you can't see that, even though it's crystal clear.
Her words cut my heart into pieces. My jaw tightened. I slowly turned to face her, my chest tightening as the anger surfaced.
"How can you say that? What makes you so sure?" I demanded, my eyes narrowing, feeling the pulse of frustration beat harder in my temples.
"Because they're getting married soon," Olivia replied, meeting my gaze without flinching.
For a moment, everything seemed to freeze. The air in the room became heavier, pressing down on me.
"She doesn’t love him. She can’t marry him!" I shot back, my voice rising with rage. My mind raced, trying to make sense of it.
"Jennifer would never, she couldn’t. Not him," I whispered through gritted teeth.
"Alex called me today. He was looking for Jennifer, said her phone was off and Daisy wasn’t answering. He mentioned they had wedding shopping to do."
My body went rigid. The heat in my veins turned to ice, cold and biting.
"I can’t believe this," I muttered through clenched teeth. My fists balled tightly at my sides.
"I will kill that bastard. I can't take this anymore." Without another word, I stormed out of the office.
Behind me, I could hear Olivia calling my name, her voice growing fainter as I moved further away. But I couldn’t stop. I wouldn’t. I was done with the lies, the pain, the confusion, it was too much. I couldn’t bear it any longer.
.............
I knocked on the door continuously, my impatience growing. Frustrated, I kicked the door hard, the sound reverberating through the quiet hallway.
"Come on, man, be patient! I’m coming!" I heard Alex’s voice as he opened the door. Shock washed over his face as he took in the sight of me standing there, fists clenched and breathing heavily. His surprise quickly turned to confusion, as if he couldn’t understand why I was there.
“What's going on?” he asked. I could see the wheels turning in his mind, but I wasn’t in the mood for explanations.
I punched him with all my strength. He stumbled as he fell to the ground. Surprise edged on his features.
With my heart racing, I pulled my weapon out, the cold metal heavy in my hand. I pointed it at him, my breath quakening as I focused on his wide eyes, filled with confusion.
Until then....
