Jennifer's POV.....

"Don't leave me, please. I can't live without you," I murmured in my sleep, my voice barely audible. Suddenly, I felt a firm shake and heard Daisy's voice cutting through the haze of my dream.

"Come on, Jenny, wake up," she urged, her tone a mix of concern and urgency as she tried to wake me up.

I jolted awake, sitting up abruptly. My body was drenched in sweat, and my breath came in rapid, shallow gasps.

My hair was damp with sweat, sticking to my forehead and cheeks in messy strands. It felt heavy and uncomfortable against my skin. I brushed it back from my face with both hands, tucked the stray strands behind my ears.

I wiped the sweat from my face with trembling hands and was trying to steady myself.

She handed me a glass of water, and after taking a sip, I returned it to her. She placed it on the nightstand.

"I thought you were having a bad dream. That's why I woke you up," Daisy explained, her eyes filled with worry.

"Kind of," I replied, my voice shaky. I took a deep breath and continued,

"In the dimly lit and stormy night I was standing in the jungle, all alone. The trees were tall and menacing, their shadows stretching out like dark figures. Aaron was there, but he turned his back on me. I called out to him, begged him to stay, but he didn't listen to any of my pleas. He just kept walking away until he disappeared into the darkness."

"You should try to forget him," Daisy said softly, her concern evident in her eyes. "It's been years, Jenny. You deserve to move on and find peace."

"I've tried so hard, you know that," I said, my voice breaking. "But I can't. Every night, his face haunts me. His absence is like a shadow that never leaves. It may be for the rest of my life. I would never forget him." I said, tears welling up in my eyes.

Daisy sighed and wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

"We'll get through this together," she whispered. "You're not alone, Jenny."

I nodded, and hold her arms but deep down, I wondered if I would ever truly be free from the ghosts of my past.

"I can't wrap my head around how someone could be so heartless, never bothering to turn to you or even make an effort to contact and was making promises as if he would fulfill them," she remarked with a hint of bitterness as she recalled his empty assurances.

"I still don't understand that why he left me, we were always together. We grew up together, spent our entire childhood in the same neighborhood, and even attended the same school. Yet, after he left, it felt like everything fell apart. My parents, too, seemed to follow his lead, leaving me to navigate this world all alone."

"But you're not alone," she reassured me, reached out for my hand and gently squeeze it. "I'm right here with you."

"You've been the only person in my life, who never left me." Feeling a surge of emotion welling up inside me. I enveloped her in a tight embrace.

"Let's leave that chapter behind. That idiot doesn't deserve a place in our lives. We're more than enough for each other," she declared, her words infused with determination and warmth, as she was trying to ease the ache of my heart.

------------

I was heading to Jake's office he asked for a today's meeting file. As I was in the hallway, a woman was carrying a cup of coffee to his office.

"Are you headed to Mr. Jake's office?" she asked.

"Yes, I am," I replied. "Why?"

"Could you please give this to him?" she requested with a hint of urgency. "I need to prepare Mr. Vinson's coffee. If I'm late, you know he'll have my head."

"Of course," I agreed while taking the tray from her. With cautious steps, I made my way toward Jake's office. However, just as I neared the door, someone emerged from the office. I collided with him, causing the cup to hit the floor, the sound of the cup breaking echoed and as a result, all the coffee spilled.

I exclaimed in horror, "Oh no, what have I done!" as the realization of ruining the file hit me.

'Thank God my shoes didn't get ruined," he remarked, his tone carrying a hint of relief.

Lost in my own misery over the damaged file, his unexpected comment made me look up in astonishment, only to find the devil staring back at me.

"My whole hard work is ruined, and you're just worried about your shoes. How mean are you?" I exclaimed, frustration was seeping into every word, my eye widened in disbelief.

He sighed, rolled his eyes, and moved forward. As he was walking past me, his shoulder brushed mine with force. Causing me to stumble and my remaining hard work to also be ruined. The file slipped from my hand and fell onto the coffee-soaked floor. I gasped, my mouth wide open in shock.

He turned back and said, "Nothing to worry about, just make a new one."

"Are you serious?" I gasped incredulously. "Is this supposed to be an apology?"

"Apology?" he asked with blank expressions.

"Yes, you should apologize because you ruined my work."

He pointed his finger to the file on the ground and said, "Talking about the work you ruined a minute ago? Seems there's nothing left for me to ruin."

I gasped in shock. He turned and left without another word.

"Oh God, this man, my patience being truly tested." I whispered in annoyance.

Jake came over, his expression filled with horror.

"Girl, what you did, it was so important."

"Yeah, the air was bad for me," I replied casually.

"You have to do it again; we need it by tomorrow morning."

"Yeah, I'm going to do it again."

--------------

As I was working lately in the office, the sound of clock ticking echoed. The silence was heavy, broken only by the faint hum of the air conditioning. Suddenly, without warning, the lights flickered and then extinguished, plunging the room into darkness. My heart raced with fear, searching for my phone, but it seemed to have vanished into thin air.

Feeling a growing sense of unease, I made my way cautiously towards the exit, my hands outstretched to feel for obstacles in my path. However, my efforts were in vain as I misjudged a step and stumbled, crashing to the floor with a thud that echoed through the empty office.

Panic seized me as I called out into the darkness, my voice trembling with fear,

"Please, turn on the lights! Could anyone hear me?"

But in the stillness that followed, my pleas seemed to disappear into the void, swallowed by the vast emptiness of the deserted office. The echo of my own voice rebounded off the walls was making me more afraid.
