Jennifer's POV:
I was decorating near the pool, I couldn't help but marvel at its immense size. The water shimmered brilliantly under the sunlight, casting sparkling reflections all around. The serene, blue surface was so inviting, and the gentle ripples created a mesmerizing dance of light and shadow.
I was so busy in admiring the pool that I didn't notice someone sneaking up behind me.
All of a sudden, a bunch of flowers was thrown on my head, scattering petals everywhere. For a moment, I thought it might be someone special. Looking at the petals, a smile crept onto my face. My heart pounding with curiosity, wondering who it could be. I hope it's the person I want to see.
With a smile still lingering on my lips, I turned around, my heart sank and all my hopes and emotions seemed to evaporate in an instant, leaving me with disappointment when I found Alex standing there. He was grinning and flashed his signature wink, a gesture that always seemed to accompany his pranks. He was such a perpetual jerk, always finding new ways to prank.
I narrowed my eyes at him, disappointment evident on my face.
"Where did that smile vanish to?" He asked with a playful grin before winking mischievously again.
"Sometimes I think I should remove your eye so you couldn't wink."
He burst into laughter and said,
"Don't you try to change the subject, because I won't let you. Now tell me clearly like a good girl who you were expecting?"
"I wasn't expecting anyone, especially not you," I shot back.
"Now, it's starting to hurt my pride. I'll start taking offense, you know."
"I couldn't care less. By the way, what are you doing here?"
"Some sort of work dragged me."
"What kind of work?"
"Secret, sweetheart."
"Are you going to tell me or not?"
"I will, but at the right time. It's confidential, and my duty doesn't allow me to reveal."
"Curse your duty, you idiot," I retorted.
"Thank you beautiful."
And then, like a storm cloud rolling in, Mr. Vinson approached us.
His face contorted with anger and eyes shooting daggers, and his demeanor icy as always.
"Who the hell invited you here?" he thundered, his voice was so loud and he was glaring at me while clenching his jaw, sending a shiver down my spine.
"The duty comes first, doesn't it?" Alex taunted while adding, "By the way, I don't need an invitation, I can go wherever I want."
Standing tall and looking straight into Mr Vinson's eyes. I am pretty sure that he has a death wish. His end is very near.
"I don't have time for useless talk. Just leave my house right now," Mr. Vinson retorted, his voice dripped with anger.
"Come aside, I have something important to discuss with you."
Mr. Vinson shot him a death glare but eventually relented, following Alex to a corner. As Alex spoke, Mr. Vinson's expression darkened further, his demeanor growing colder. His hands clenched into fists, a sign of the boiling rage within him, as he was on the brink of losing control.
Eventually, Alex dropped the conversation and approached me.
"Okay, sweetheart, I'm leaving."
"So you won't tell me what's going on?" I asked while crossing my arms.
"I will definitely tell you, but as I said, at the right time."
"Right time. Seriously, Alex?"
And then Mr. Vinson approached.
"Why are you still here?" He questioned Alex.
Alex raised his hand in surrender. "I'm going, sir, I'm going."
As he was leaving, his foot collided with mine, causing me to lose my balance. I instinctively reached out for Mr. Vinson's arm to steady myself, but he was oblivious of the situation. He was too busy giving Alex a death glare.
As I grabbed his arm, he lost his balance too, and we both tumbled into the pool.
We tumbled into the swimming pool, and panic surged through me as I realized I couldn't swim. In a flash, Mr. Vinson grabbed me firmly by the waist, pulling me upright. Clinging to his shoulders for support, I sighed and our eyes met. A rush of emotions surged through me as he was intently looking into my eyes. Our attention was fully absorbed by each other's gaze, when Alex's voice broke the spell.
"I guess someone is drowning. Need some help?" Alex's mocking tone pierced the air, he was taunting Mr. Vinson, his smirk only adding fuel to Mr. Vinson's simmering rage. I coud feel his hands tightening into a fist around my waist. With a low growl of anger, Mr. Vinson ignored Alex's taunt.
"Goodbye, beautiful," Alex said to me with a nonchalant wave before turning to leave.
As he disappeared from sight, Mr. Vinson turned to me, If looks could kill, he would have struck me down where I stood.
His stare, intense and piercing, bore into me with such ferocity that it felt like he was shooting daggers at me.
Every ounce of his being seemed fixated on me, his eyes filled with a fury that could only be described as deadly. Without uttering a single word, he released me and turned away, leaving me stranded in the pool without a backward glance.
As I watched him depart, a shiver ran down my spine. The enigmatic nature of Mr. Vinson left me bewildered.
"Even the whole universe together cannot understand this man," I whispered to myself.
