Jennifer's POV....
I rushed into the office and threw open the door with a loud thud, startling everyone inside. My feet moved instinctively towards the destination. The room seemed to blur around me as I focused on Mr. Vinson.
When I reached him, I shoved him hard, causing him to stumble back. His expressionless face only fueled my rage. Without thinking, I hit his chest multiple times. I grabbed his collar roughly, pulling him close.
"How could you do this?" I shouted, my voice echoing off the walls. "How could you kill someone and act like nothing happened?" My grip tightened on his collar, my breaths came in harsh gasps as I stared into his eyes. A hint of guilt appeared in his eyes.
I grabbed my head with both hands. "What kind of a person you are," I said bitterly. He kept looking at me with a steady, intense gaze, as if searching for something in my eyes, with the hurt evident in his own. But, does his hurt matter? Would it bring my parents back? He tried to grab my hand, but I yanked it away.
"Don't," I said, pointing my finger at him.
"Listen to me- "
"What are you going to say? That it was just an accident? It wasn't my mistake. For someone like you, it's just a minor incident, but you've destroyed my whole damn world."
Alex stepped near me,
"Relax, Jenny," he said soothingly, trying to place a hand on my shoulder. But I shoved him away, my frustration boiling over.
"Stay away! You all are the same. When I asked you multiple times, you never told me the truth. You all are the same..." My vision started to blur with tears, and I felt a wave of dizziness. As I lost my balance, Mr. Vinson rushed over and caught me.
---------------
I slowly opened my eyes as the sharp, sterile smell of medicine hit my nose. My surroundings came into focus, and I realized I was lying on a hospital bed. I glanced down and saw an IV inserted into my hand, the clear fluid dripping steadily.
The room was so quiet. Just then, the door creaked open, and Mr. Vinson walked in.
"What are you doing here? Just go away. I don't want to see your face, you're a murderer," I spat out, my voice trembling.
"I am not a murderer," he said through gritted teeth. He pulled up a chair and sat beside me.
"Listen to me carefully. I wasn't driving at that time and it was an accident, it wasn't done intentionally."
I shook my head, feeling a wave of disappointment and disbelief wash over me. I averted my gaze, staring blankly at the sterile white walls of the room. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.
Just then, a nurse entered the room. She carefully removed the IV from my hand,
"Sir, we need your signature on the discharge papers."
Mr. Vinson stood up, his expression unreadable. Without another word, he followed the nurse out of the room.
I tried to stand, but my legs gave out, and I stumbled back instantly. Gripping the edge of the bed for support, I steadied myself and somehow managed to reach the door. As I opened it, Mr. Vinson was standing there, his hand on the knob, when he saw me, he crossed his arms, eyes burning with a mix of concern and anger.
I tried to slip past him, but his grip was firm as he caught my arm. Without a word, he effortlessly lifted me into his arms. I squirmed and struggled, but it was futile. His hold was unyielding.
"Let me go, I can walk," I protested, but my voice met with deaf ears. He carried me to his car and gently placed me in the passenger seat.
As he got behind the wheel and started driving, I glanced at him, noticing the tightness in his jaw and the furrow in his brow. We didn't talk on the way home.
As the car stopped, I opened the door and entered the house. When I saw Daisy, I burst into tears. I was overwhelmed by the situation, and she was also shocked to see me. I told her what had happened, and she cried alongside me. We hugged each other, letting all our tears flow freely.
Daisy has always been my steadfast partner, sharing in both my moments of joy and my times of sorrow. Through every high and low, she has never left my side. Her loyalty is persistent, and she stands out as the only truly faithful person in my life.
------------
I woke up late today, the sun already high in the sky as it filtered through the blinds. Still lying in bed.
Daisy must have gone to work, but she didn't wake me up. She knew how tired my mind was after dealing with everything lately.
I didn't go to the office, thought of facing that man was unbearable. Deep down, a part of me desperately wanted to believe he was innocent, but my mind was tangled in doubt and denial.
I couldn't understand why, each time I tried to sort through the ache, I found myself back at the same painful crossroads.
As I lay there, trying to shake off the heavy thoughts, my phone beeped, breaking the silence. I reached for it, my fingers brushing against the screen, and saw a message from Jake.
"I'll send you the address. Meet me there. I want to tell you something important. I'll be waiting for you, remember It's very important."
Until then....
