Chapter 15 - Aphmau's Schenanigans

Today was a normal day, like any other, except where has Zane gone? I saw him in homeroom for a bit then I lost him. It's been really weird, I haven't seen him around the halls and he hasn't shown up for lunch... where could he be? Maybe he's off trying to join the shadow nights? I sit peacefully eating my lunch by myself... I've gotten used to it for the days he tries to join shadow nights. I can deal with being by myself, I've always been good with my own company.
Suddenly someone comes up behind me and taps me on the shoulder. I turn around excited. But no, it's not Zane, it's just Travis. He seems nervous.
"H-hi, (Y/N)..." Travis begins.
"Oh, Hi Travis, what's up?" I ask.
"I-I just wanted to apologize for the thing last week... I heard what happened at lunch after biology and I felt responsible and wanted to apologize." He apologises.
"Oh, Travis. That had nothing to do with you, no worries at all, ok?" I tell him.
"B-but, If I hadn't come and asked for help like Gene wanted me, to then he wouldn't have done that at lunch." He explains.
"But Travis. It was all his decision. You were just the pawn; I don't blame you for anything! We're perfectly fine. Ok?" I repeat.
"O-ok, Thanks (Y/N)!" He sighs in relief. "Where's Zane today? Didn't he stand up for you that day?" He ponders.
"Yeah, he did. If I'm being honest, I've been thinking the same thing, I saw him in homeroom then haven't seen him since." I yabber.
"Huh, that's funny. I haven't seen Aphmau since homeroom either..." He mentions. "I could always sit here for lunch today... if you would like? Dante's not super happy with me being a bit unsure about Gene at the moment." He suggests.
"Yeah sure! That sounds great." I agree. I move over and he sits down.
~~~Time Skip~~~
It's the end of the day and still no sight of Zane. I walk to the tree to see him talking so a meifwa and Aphmau... or should I say yelling, at the bottom of the stairs.
"NO, You Dummy!!! Where are you finding all these cat girls!?!?" He yells. Aphmau gives the girl a mouse then she walks away.
"I lied to you, OK?!?! I don't have a crush on anyone I just wanted to gain your trust so you could tell me a secret!" He admits. Does he not... like... anyone... I am taken a back. I don't know why but I feel a tinge of sadness.
"So, you wanted a friend?" She assumes.
"EWWWWW NO! I already have friends! Like (Y/N), the shadow nights and my online friends! I will NEVER want to be your friend! Stop being so annoying and leave me ALONE!" He runs up the stairs to see me.
"(Y/N)!!!!" He yells. Then hugs me.
"Hey, Zane... what on earth was that about?" I ask.
"I just had the WORST DAY! EVER!" He begins. He then continues to explain his shenanigan filled day as we walk to the gates.
"Hey, you're the guy that got that girl to give cat toys to all the meifwa girls right?" The purple hair meifwa from the stairs suddenly asks. Zane and I turn around.
"Well, I didn't ask her. It was a misunderstanding really." He interjects.
"Thank you anyway, it was my birthday today and no one noticed but I got this cat toy that made me happy. So, you're cool! Thank you!" She then runs off.
"I-I, huh, I'm cool?" He asks out loud.
"You certainly are to me you dummy!" I interject. He scoffs.
"I don't need to be cool anyway! I've got you and the shadow nights... MINUS Gene!" He adds very dramatically.
"Hehe" I laugh as we begin the walk home. Really... it makes sense he doesn't like anyone... He is Zane after all... "*Sigh*" I accidentally exhale.
"You good (Y/N)?" He checks in.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just a little sad you had to hide from Aph all day" I say, quickly coming up with an excuse.
"Oh, yeah. I'm really sorry I wasn't at lunch." He apologises.
"No, it's all good! I understand how crazy your day was. Hehe" I begin to giggle again. Why do I hide my emotions?
