Chapter 24 - We Meet Again

It's the morning, I'm waiting patiently under the tree. Some time has passed since I saw Gene at Hot Topic. It's now week 4 of term 2. Lucinda has learnt to better manage her life with Ivan, so we all get a little more girl time. While the Jury has managed to take over the school pretty fast, Zane and I have barely spoken at all. I've gotten over the tags in the cafeteria, I just want my friend back. But I still have hope, thanks to Gene.

*Bring Bring* It's time for homeroom. I get up from the tree and head to homeroom. I end up walking in at the same time as a very powerful and entitled Zane. He is standing tall with a judgemental look on his face, that looks terribly upon anyone getting in his way. I head over to the girls and sit down.

"Good morning, guys!" I chime.

"Morning (Y/N)!" The girls chime back. The usual convo begins but I zone out. I watch Zane, the way he sits so standoffish in his chair, his shoulders spread out, he is acting as if he owns the place.

"Hehe." I chuckle.

"What's so funny (Y/N)?" Aphmau asks.

"Sorry, just thinking about things." I turn to her and apologise; I feel a gaze coming from the direction I was looking before. The convo returns to its usual pattern as I observe again. His head is in his hands now, what's up with him? *Bring Bring* It's time for Biology, maybe I can ask him there? I'll just have to see.

"Bye guys!" I farewell my friends then head off.

When I enter my biology class, I see him sitting in the chair, next to mine.

"Hey Zane." I greet neutrally, I'm unsure how to act around him now.

"Hey!" He greets back. I sit down next to him and grab out my books, readying myself for the lesson. Once I'm done, I look at him, I smile, awkwardly. He tilts his head mildly. He lets out a sigh, his head then falls into his hands, his elbows resting on the desk on top of his books.

"What's up?" I ask, even if I'm unsure if we're friends anymore, I still don't want him to be sad.

"I-It's nothing (Y/N)." He heaves into his hands.

"If, you say so, Mr Gang boss!" I chime, a little sad he doesn't feel comfortable telling me, there's obviously something on his mind. But he won't allow me to help. I then take my turn at sighing, I grab my pen out of my pencil case, I scribble on my page. I begin to draw a horsie, I'm unsure of who to draw, I then choose my default, Butter Shy. I'm almost done when I hear a soft chuckle from Zane.

"Hey? You got a problem with me drawing my little horsies?!" I interrogate, jokingly offended.

"No, it's just... It's a good drawing. It's cute." He compliments, his head is now resting on his hands, observing my drawing. I feel myself blush a little.

"Th-thanks Zane!" I bubble. He likes my Butter Shy! Before long the teacher walks in, we fade back into solitude as the class begins.

*Bring Bring*

"Bye, Zane! See you next lesson!" I cheer as I grab my stuff. He looks at me.

"Y-yeah, see you next lesson." He falters, he's still sad, I wish he would tell me what's wrong. I exit the class and head to lunch. I approach the table brimming with my friends and sit in my usual spot.

"Hey, everyone!" I beam.

"Hey, (Y/N)!" Everyone returns. I open my lunch and begin to eat. Aphmau has made some new friends this year, named Ein and Kai, they sound nice! She is constantly talking about them; she has a crush on this Kai guy, he's a meifwa senior, and Ein is a werewolf so he's helping her with Alpha things. It's a bit confusing. I'm surprised she moved on so fast from that Aaron guy, they seemed close. But anyway, I'm not one to judge. I'm just happy that she's happy. She seems very excited today. I wonder what's going on with her?
