They sat around the breakfast table as if it was their normal routine. Quietly chatting back and forth about silly nonsense, but Max was focusing on Luna more than anything else.
It bothered him.
It made him feel as if he was trapped in a scary movie where the little girl gets possessed by demons and tries to kill the father and everyone else.
"Yo? Mate- you alright?" Logan asks as he sits next to Max and both Lauren and Helen smirk slightly at Max's startled expression.
"Um...yeah."
"I ask cause ya been staring at that nosh for like an hour." Max looks down at his plate and nothing has been touched.
"Sorry, I um...have a lot on my mind." He states and begins to eat the pancakes Helen made to go with the bacon and eggs.
"So, I looked through my closet and found some clothes for ya. Nothing too over the top or anything- just some things I know you'll wear." Lauren says and Helen smiles at her kindly.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it, Laur."
"Any time. I figure we get paid this week- so we can have a fun little shopping day next weekend."
"Oh...please we don't have to do that."
"Nonsense. You need your own fashion because mine is not gonna cut it for you." She laughs and Max smiles slightly as he watches the two women chortle and slightly bicker.
"We have a game this week?" Logan asks and Max nods.
"Friday and Saturday. JV is Saturday this week."
"Are we home or away?"
"Do you not own the schedule, Brov?" Lukas snarks and Logan shrugs his shoulders.
"If we got Coach in house- why can't I just ask him?" Logan asks and Lukas rolls his eyes.
"Cause he doesn't want to put up with your nonsense and stupid questions." Lukas growls and all the adults seem to set their silverware down all at the same time and look at Lukas with slight contempt.
"It wasn't a stupid question Lukas- I just asked him about the games." Logan argues back.
"Maybe stop being slow and put it in your bloody phone like you're supposed to. Nobody's carrying you, ya Git. You're old enough to take care of your own business." Lukas snaps and Helen doesn't understand why her oldest is being so crass for no reason.
"It was just a question, Chap..." Logan states a bit quieter and Lukas loses his top.
"And you already have the answers in your phone. Don't expect that just cause you're under his roof he's gonna give a single damn about you, Brov! He ain't gonna hold ya hand, take you fishing, and be old chums with ya just cause he's trying to bang ya Mum!"
"Enough!!" Helen yells and without a moment to wait for another adult to yell at him, Lukas gets up from the table and heads into his bedroom down the hall, slamming the door behind him as he goes. Helen looks at Lauren and then Max with a shocked expression on her face because she didn't truly see that coming. She looks at Logan and he seems upset- to the point he may actually start crying.
And Luna.
Well Luna is already shying away from everyone- her own eyes looking full of tears.
"Lo..." Helen says and Logan shakes his head, puts his fork down on his plate with a clatter and goes out the back door to the yard. Max sits back in his chair for a minute and as Helen goes to stand, Max wipes his mouth with his napkin, gestures for her to sit and goes down the hall to Lukas.
