The game was not going how he needed it too.
He couldn't turn fast enough.
He could hardly dribble.
And.
His shots he took were weak and off target every time.
Yet he tried. He tried his hardest and he couldn't cut it.
Akash at one point gripped Helen's hand so hard due to his anger towards Logan's playing- that she lost all feeling in it.
Just before half time, Helen stands up and looks at Luna, who is on the other side of Akash and she looks at the woman she's grown to love with a slight wariness.
"We'll be back." Helen puts her hand out to Luna and Akash narrows his eyes at her.
"Where do you think you're going?" Akash asks kindly but his voice is venomous.
"The loo. We always go at half time. If you wouldn't mind removing your hand." She says and Akash stands up as well and looms down at her. Noticing Max watching them, Akash leans down and forces a kiss to her lips. Helen tries to push him off, but he holds her around her waist- pulling her to his front.
"Hey Buddy- mind sitting down?" An older man asks and Akash glares at him before sitting down and finally releasing Helen hand. Helen puts it out for Luna and they hustle down the bleachers. She gives Max a sympathetic look and hustles out of the gym.
Once out there- her blood boiling and frustration growing- Helen has to remind herself not to flip out because she's in public.
They head into the restroom and into a stall. Luna sits on the pot as Helen faces away from her.
"Why is Kash like that?" Luna asks. "Why he kiss you like Daddy does?"
Inwardly holding her breath- Helen wishes the little girl would keep these questions to herself.
"Do you love him?" Luna asks a bit saddened by the thought. "I thought you love my Daddy..."
It breaks her heart.
"I don't love Akash. He's not a very nice man and he's...he's forcing...he's just a meany." Helen says finally and Luna flushes the toilet.
"Then why you kiss him and hold his hand?"
"I don't want to hold his hand- Luna. You see how bruised it is? That's him controlling me—I don't like it and...and I know you don't understand...I don't fully understand—but honey: we aren't going back in there. Okay?"
"But the game?"
"I know- honey—But Akash is not a nice guy and he's hurting me. So we're going to go play outside for a bit. Okay?" She says as happily as she can and Luna just nods. They wash their hands and leave the school altogether.
Once outside, Helen texts Max about her plan and he doesn't respond at all.
...
Inside the gym- the buzzer goes off and Akash is angry because Logan is playing like shit.
And he makes sure he knows that. Going down, he calls Logan over to the end of the bleachers. He's hesitant to go- but he finally does and Akash places his hand on the nape of the kids neck and squeezes it hard- making Logan feel faint.
"You're playing like a loser out there! I have a scout here and you can't even dribble the fucking ball?!" He quietly seethes and Logan wants to vomit. "You are so fucking pathetic Logan. I don't even want to fucking look at you- you make me sick."
If anyone was looking in at this scene- it simply looks like a father giving his son a nice genuine pep talk.
But Max is looking on and despite the warm smile on Akash's face- he can tell he's drilling nonsense into that poor child's mind. Looking at his phone, Max finds Helen's message and quickly calls her.
