It was odd for them.
Waking up downstairs together after the night they just had.
After two weeks of not speaking with each other.
It felt like their entire existence together was flipped upside down and turned into something unnatural.
Rolling over this morning, Max finds Helen missing from bed and can't help but feel slightly relieved.
getting up and stretching, he heads upstairs to find her and the kids enjoying some cereal and when their eyes catch, Helen and Max simply blush and look away.
"Good morning." He says softly and kisses Luna on the top of her head before clapping Logan gently on the shoulder and then Lukas as he passes towards Helen.
"Good morning, Max. How's you sleep?" She asks and he smiles softly and nods his head just a bit.
"I slept okay."
Neither of them touched each other last night after their failed romp. They laid on opposite sides of the bed and at one point Max honestly just contemplated going upstairs to his own bed.
But he stayed because he didn't want Helen to feel bad or unwanted.
Because that's not the case.
He wants her very much.
He just needs to get out of his own head.
"Mum! Lukas told me Homecoming is this weekend coming up! Can I go!?!" Logan excitedly asks and Helen smiles sweetly to him.
"Of course dear—we'll take your ear plugs just incase it's too loud for you."
"No! Mum! I'll look like a dork! I don't want to wear them." He begins to get loud and upset and Helen is about to try and calm him down, when his damaged mind goes off even worse. "I missed so much school and no one is gonna be my friend when I get back anyway!! And now I have to wear these stupid plugs because it's too loud and they're gonna laugh at me!! I'm just not even going back! Fuck school! Fuck this!"
Tossing his spoon into the bowl, some milk splatter everywhere across the table as Logan storms out of the kitchen and downstairs. Helen takes one step, but out of everyone, Luna- who they would have thought would be afraid of the outburst, sticks her hand up and hops off the chair and goes down to the basement. The others can't help but sneak down behind her- just incase Logan forgets himself. They find him in the gym/laundry area beating the fuck out of the punching bag that hangs from the ceiling. He wails on it hard and screams and growls and kicks it and when Luna walks up to him, he stills and squeezes his body tight around it as if the little girl can't see him if he doesn't move. The three peer into the room and quietly watch what happens next.
"I know you sad, Lo. I'm sad for you too. I'm sorry you neber feel good any more and scared of school." Her tiny voice echos in the basement and they can see Logan's tears welling in his eyes as he tries not to look at her. "This not fair, Logan and I am sorry all this happen to you."
He doesn't say anything and Luna bravely steps up to him and tugs his arms down from clutching the punching bag. She gets him to sit down on the floor and she sits on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck gently and swaying them ever so gently from side to side.
"I will wear earplugs at school wid you if you want. So you no have to alone. I don't care what kids say and neider should you. You my brudder and I love you." This makes everyone melt and Lukas a little jealous because she's been hanging out with Lukas longer than Logan so he should've been considered her brother first.
"Mmpphh...thanks Luna." He sniffs back his tears and hugs her gently. The other three decide it's best to just leave them be and they sneak back upstairs quietly. Once up there, Helen can't help but lean into Max and he leaves a small kiss on her temple.
