"How's it going in here?" Helen asks as she sits across from Logan at an empty table. He's been in the Ward for a few days and Helen has visited every single one of them. The first few days he seemed really down and lost- barely spoke as guilt ate at him, but today he seems a bit brighter.
"Better. I'm actually sleeping a bit."
"I'm so glad. You look better. Oh! Luna wanted me to bring you this." She reaches in her purse and hands him a piece of paper with Luna and Logan holding hands under a rainbow. Logan laughs through his nose slightly and smiles at the drawing as he puts it off to the side. "She was hoping you wouldn't mind the rainbow- it's her signature feature in a lot of her drawings- ya know."
"Yeah- I like it. I'll have to color her something." He states and plays with his hands on the table
"We've really missed you, Lo. Once we get you back on the right foot- I think it'll be easier. Okay?"
"Mum...."
"Yes, Darling?" She reaches over and takes his hands and notices his bottom lip start to quiver. "Honey? What's wrong?"
"I'm really sorry."
"Oh...Logan- it's alright..."
"No! I shouldn't have said what I did. I hurt you so bad and...and I can never stop thinking about it...about everything I said..." Getting up, Helen walks around the table and kneels in front of him, she turns him in his seat and firmly holds his face in her hands.
"You look at me and you listen my darling boy. I forgive you. I'm gonna say it again. I forgive you. I don't want you going through this life thinking that I love you any less because of one bad moment we had. I'm not perfect and neither are you. I don't expect you to be. We all make mistakes. We all say hurtful things. We are human and the best we can do is forgive, change, and move on. I don't want you to worry about that day any more- alright. I have long since forgotten and so should you. I love you, my little brat." She kisses his forehead and pulls him forward to hug him tightly. She presses a few kisses to his temple and squeezes him tightly once more. "I'm proud to have you as a son. I'm proud of you and once you get out of here, and things go back to normal- I'll still be proud of you."
"But I can't play sports any more..." He feels worthless and his mother too feels helpless in this moment- unsure of how to help him.
"Sports aren't everything, my dear. I know you love them and we can still play some one on one pick ups- you and the fam- but I rather you be safe than risk hurting your head any more. The game isn't worth your health and I know that may sound harsh and unfair- but none of this is fair. We can toss fair right out the window." She stands up and he does too. They hold each other for a while until the nurse comes in, signaling that the visit is ending. "When you get out, we'll play. Alright? And your old mum will kick your bum. How about that, huh?"
She smiles and so does he.
"As if. You have no game." He teases and she smirks even more.
"I have game. You little brat. I'll do laps around you."
"As if."
"Well, just show me then. I gotta go, Sweetheart, but I'll see you tomorrow- alright?" He nods and she gives him another kiss before leaving the family lounge. Walking down the checkered floor towards the hallway, Helen feels that pain in her chest rise as it always does when she leaves him. She hates it so much, but he needs to be here.
Taking her phone out, she calls Max and he picks up after the second ring.
"Hey, beautiful- how was your visit with Lo?" She blushes madly at this.
