Walking downstairs, Helen finds Max dressed for work and looking at his phone intently.
"Where's Lu? We gotta go." He says and Helen just crosses her arms.
"She's not going today."
"Um...yes- she is." Helen shakes her head nod and leans against the console table in the front hall. "Helen."
He firmly states and she raises her brows at him.
"What'd you find last night?"
"What? What are you..."
"Heard you found something out- yet yourself not sharing what it is. So what is it you found?"
"How do you...."
"Judge mentioned it."
"Phhh..."
"Spill." Helen says commandingly and Max shakes his head and sighs heavily.
"You need to rest, Helen and Luna needs to get ready for school..." He is about to go upstairs, when Helen grabs at his arm.
"She and I had a very long talk. She has a gift Max- a gift of seeing spirits and talking with them. I...I felt...huh...it doesn't matter- what does matter is talking to Judge because apparently he knows something about what's going on here and I want answers to these questions we have. So...so though she is your child and you wish to protect my bloody heart—I need to put my foot down and have her stay today. Do some searching and maybe figure somethings out." He looks at her and then back upstairs and sighs once more before coming over to her.
"Marlene Mystic Morgan is what I found last night. Triple M. She must be connected to Henry Whitman somehow. That's what I wound up finding. She has a small shop in Lower Queens."
"And you were just going to sit on this information—for how long?" Helen asks a bit angered.
"At least until you started feeling better."
"My heart may be weak but my spirit is strong." She says boldly and pulls him by his tie to come closer to her. "You go there without me and I will extend the blacklist."
"Huh...fine."
"I mean it. If I even remotely find out that you went and communicated with that woman without me— no more of this." She gestures to her whole body and then kisses his lips a bit harder than either would have liked. "Go to work, do your IEPs and what not and then when you come home- we can discuss what Luna and I find out from Judge today....if anything."
"Fine."
"Don't be that way."
"Helen- you should be resting. And I don't know how I feel about you doing a séance with our little girl in our home while I'm not home."
"It's not a séance. It's just a little communicating. And it's not like she doesn't do it all the bloody time anyhow."
"Yes...well—burn some sage or something." He grumbles, kisses her lips and then heads outside to leave. Helen stands at the doorway and watches him go. He walks down the sidewalk and once he's gone, she hurries downstairs to the boys lying in her bed still.
"Oý—get up." Helen rouses them and they slowly begin to me. They look at her groggily and she smiles slightly.
"Mmm? What?"
"You two aren't going to school today- but I need you both to do something for me— it's important." She says and they look at her oddly.
"What?" Lukas asks.
"I need you to do some errands for me- nothing too laborious, but something important."
"Like what?"
"Want to play detectives like you used too?" She asks and now she has their attention.
