When she got home, she was a little surprised to find the house decorated for Halloween.
Black bats hung from the ceiling.
Orange, lime green, and purple tinsel weaved around the walls.
And other decorations were strewn around the place along with fake cobwebs and orange Christmas lights.
The whole home looked proper done up and it almost made Helen forget about what she held in her purse.
"Mummy!!!" Luna comes running up to her and nearly bowls her over and she throws her body into her, Helen tries to buffer the shock wave through her body by putting her purse and bag with the dress slightly in front of her.
"Oh, my munchkin! Mm! I've missed you!" Helen leans down and gently squeezes the girl. She notices Max and the boys watching closely between the interactions and reactions Helen has with Luna and each one notice that she's strange here in the moment. "Come let's try on your costume."
"Yay!!! Daddy!! Brudders! Mummy got me a princess!!" She happily bounces and tries to hang on Helen as she walks, but Helen is very quick to disperse the rambunctious climbing clings of the child. Setting her things down on the kitchen table, Helen grabs the 'costume' bag and heads into the living room.
"Okay- I know this probably won't be the kinda of princessy dress you were expecting- but I had to make do with what I could. So please don't be too upset with me." Helen says as Luna jumps up and down excitedly waiting for Helen to pull the dress from the bag. When she pulls it out, Luna's eyes go extremely wide and Helen is beyond worried that the little girl won't like it.
She's so worried, she nearly begins to cry at the thought of Luna dismissing the dress as incorrect or not good enough.
"Well? Whatcha think, Baby Girl? Is it okay?" Helen bravely asks as the girl twists the hanger around to look at all sides and when she's completely examined it, she lowers it and looks at Helen.
"I love it!! You did a great job!!! Thank you, Mummy!!" She throws herself at Helen, who has a knee jerk reaction, and quite literally puts her knee up slightly as Luna lunges forward. The poor girl hits Helen's knee slightly with face- which causes her to unfortunately bite Helen knee cap and immediately start crying. "Ahhh!!!"
"Oh my gosh! Munchkin- I am so sorry- come here and let me see!" Helen reaches forward for Luna, but the little girl is not too keen on getting close to Helen- so she simply runs to Lukas.
"It's okay, Love. Let me see." Lukas kneels down and tries to get her to remove her hands from her mouth.
"Honey, I am so sorry!" Helen gets up- but feels a slight pinch in her knee and as she looks down- she understands why the child is in such distress.
One of her top from teeth is slightly stuck in Helen's knee. Pulling it out, she feels absolutely retched.
"Max- get some napkins and maybe some ice- she just lost a tooth..." Helen says and as she comes towards Luna to see if she's alright, the little girl just continues to cry and cling to Lukas- who cradles her gently as he sits back on his legs. "Munchkin, I didn't mean too, Honey. I'm really really sorry."
"Wone!" Luna cries loudly and tries to keep Helen away with her hand. It breaks her heart and yet all she can do, is walk past her kids, hand Max the tooth- grab her purse and head downstairs- sobbing her own eyes out.
Max and Logan share an odd look and Max begins to take care of Luna and try to get her to calm down.
....
She cried herself to sleep down stairs- her body exhausted from the day of stress and nightmares.
It took a while- she heard- for Luna to stop crying as Max tried to look in her mouth and try and calm the child through bribery of ice cream with warm fudge and sprinkles.
