"Georgia? Wh...why was the key for...for Georgia?" Max stammers slightly and Flower gets up and rests her head on his leg. He looks down at the dog and smiles softly before placing his hand on her head.
"Well...I suppose now is a better thing than any. The letters, Dear?" Marlene looks to Helen and it takes her a moment to register that she needs to actually grabs the envelope. Taking it from her purse, she hands it to Marlene and she smiles graciously to Helen as she undoes the clips to open up and empty the contents onto the table. When the metal key with the half heart carved into it drops to the table, her eyes soften even more as she slowly picks it up. "You've resisted the urge to open them I see. Good."
She holds the key in her fingers and smiles longingly at it.
"Is that...is that Georgia's attachment key?" Helen asks and Marlene looks at her and then removes herself from the table. Flower follows her and Max and Helen just stare at the good handful of letters on the table. "Max? Are you alright?"
"I...I don't know- Helen. I honestly don't...don't know." Reaching across the table, Helen offers her hand and Max takes it after a few moments.
"I have you...Always." They let go after a few moments and when they do, Marlene comes back with a small wooden box, Flower returns as well and she immediately heads back to Max and rests her head on his lap once more.
Setting the wooden box down on the table, Marlene takes the key and inserts it into the keyhole. It opens up and a small tinkering of soft music plays.
"I...I know that...that tune." Max says and sits up a bit more. "Georgia used to him that when...when she was pregnant with Luna."
"It's called Am Donaustrande. It was composed by Johannes Brahms and written by Georg Friedrich Daumer.
On the Danube's shore there stands a house,
from its windows a rosy girl looks out.
The girl is excellently guarded,
ten bolts are fixed to her door.
Ten bolts of iron – a mere trifle!
I'll break them down,
as though they were glass.Originally written in German of course- it's known as Liebeslieder no. 9." Marlene states and when the box is fully open, Max and Helen find a small necklace inside that has pendant on it. A simple pendant like a small silver coin. On one side is a crescent moon and on the other is a flower.
But Max knows this necklace.
He knows it very well.
"Hey...hey where did you get that!" He stands up and goes to reach for it, but Helen quickly grabs his hand- to stave off his impolite reach.
"It was brought to me for safe keeping."
"Max?"
"That was Georgia's! I bought her that! Right after we found out we were having a little girl. You shouldn't have that!" Max bellows and Helen squeezes his hand tighter. "You! You changed it! You engraved a flower on it and you destroyed..."
"Max!" Helen says- connecting the pieces easily. He looks at her angrily and then follows her gaze. He follows it down to the shy dog beside him, who slowly wags her tail just enough for them to see.
"Y...you don't... you're not suggesting..." Max looks between the women and Helen slowly releases his hand. He shakes his head and backs from the table. "You're honestly suggesting that...that my wife is in that damn dog?!"He shouts and the dog cowers a bit- lower her head.
"A piece of her soul—yes. The rest is in your daughter. This is her key, Max. This is what was chosen to house her spirit for eternity." Marlene reaches out with the necklace and offers it to Max. "Please...take it- for you daughter."
