The soft murmur of conversation and the clinking of cutlery filled the cozy, dimly lit restaurant.
"Ender," I began, my voice low but insistent. “You need to tell me everything you know about my past.”
"Eat," tipid niyang utos.
I shook my head.
Galit kong sabi.
"Kumain ka muna kasi, alam kong gutom ka." Giit niya.
Frustration bubbled up inside me. “I’m not here for the food. I need answers.”
His eyes met mine, steady and composed. “All in good time, Gab. Let’s not rush.”
I clenched my fists under the table, struggling to keep my composure.
The buzzing of my phone interrupted my thoughts. I glanced at the screen to see a message from Eris.
"Gab, where are you?"
My heart skipped a beat. I quickly typed a reply.
"With friends, catching up. See you later.x"
Ender watched me with a knowing look. “Eris?”
"It's none of your business, Ender."
Ender’s expression softened, but he didn’t press further. Instead, he leaned back in his chair, a sigh escaping his lips. “Gab, that's the only thing you need to know.”
I frown.
"Ender, you know that I deserve to know the truth. 'Wag mo naman ipagkait sa akin iyon." Pagmamakaawa ko.
"Things are complicated right now, maybe someday, malaman mo rin ang lahat," he replied.
My phone buzzed again. This time, it was a call from Eris. The urgency in his call gave me the excuse I needed to leave. “I have to go,” I said, standing abruptly. “Eris is calling.”
Ender didn’t try to stop me. “Take care, Gab. And remember, the past doesn’t define who you are now.”
