Walking down the hallway, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The stares followed me like shadows, each pair of eyes filled with a mix of confusion and something that resembled disgust.
My heart pounded in my chest, a sinking feeling settling in my stomach.
I kept my head down, my steps quickening as I approached our classroom. Maybe it was just my imagination, I told myself, but the uneasy glances and whispered conversations didn’t help.
I made my way to my desk, my face burning with embarrassment. Sitting down, I turned to Isaiah, who was already settled in her seat, reading her book.
"Isaiah, anong nangyayari?
Tsk.
I sighed, slumping back in my chair. “Everyone’s staring at me like I’ve done something terrible. Wala namang nagsasabi!”
Isaiah glanced around the room, then back at me.
I tried to take her advice na lang, but it was hard to ignore the pointed looks and hushed conversations. My mind raced, trying to figure out what could have happened. Did I say something wrong? Do something without realizing it?
Just then, the door opened, and Hugo walked in. The room fell into a hushed silence, all eyes shifting to him.
He glanced at me, his eyes filled with questions kaya lumapit ako sa kanya at napansing bumigat lalo ang mga tingin nila.
"Hugo, ano ba 'to?
“I have no clue. It’s like everyone’s against us.”
“This is so weird. Did something happen while we were out?” Hugo asked as we sat.
“I don’t think so,” I replied, my mind still racing. “But something’s definitely up.”
The room is still buzzing with quiet speculation, our classmates stealing glances at us. My anxiety grew with each passing second. I felt trapped, surrounded by an invisible wall of judgment and disapproval.
