Carlisle's POV

Flashback

I laid for the first time in centres under my own bed covers next to the woman I'd always imagined I'd lay next to under them. Y/n was sleeping on her side facing me. I laid on my side watching her peaceful figure, she looked radiant under the slight sunlight which shone through the gaps in the curtain.

Part of her skin glowed under the sunlight; it made me wonder what she look like with vampire skin. Her human self was flawless as it was but to imagine her as one of us lit a certain candle of curiosity within myself. That was before it dawned on me how she'd somewhat refused the idea of becoming a vampire.

I watched as her chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm that I felt could lure me to sleep despite my inability to sleep. A strand of her hair fell across her face as she shifted slightly. Smiling, I lifted my hand and pushed the strand behind her ear. I lent forwards and placed a small peck on her forehead right before the whooshing sounds of the others came from outside.

'They're back.' I thought.

Carefully I got up from the bed trying not to disturb Y/n's sleep. With a quick motion I picked up my clothes off the floor and pulled on my boxers and trousers before moving to the window to see the others walking towards the house while I tightened my belt.

Turning around to glance upon the figure sleeping on my bed, I collected and folded her clothes, placing them on the dresser on her side of the bed, the left, before reaching over and making sure she was properly tucked into the sheets. With a final kiss to the forehead I left the room, made my way down the stairs while pulling my white shirt on and buttoning it up.

As I came down the third set of stairs leading to the ground floor of the house Esme was the first to speak.

"Where's Y/n?" She asked as she met me at the bottom step.

"Sleeping." I'll reply shortly. "How was the search?" I asked.

"I guess the stress of the day must have tired her out." Esme said as we made our way into the living room, the rest of the family walking ahead.

"Yeah I..." I went to agreed with the woman until Emmett's voice cut me off.

"Or Carlisle did." He teased me. I stopped in my tracks, caught off guard for a moment as flashing memories of what had occurred a few hours prior returned to my thoughts. With a cough I continued walking to a nearby sofa.

"You slept with Y/n?" Edward then blurts, causing all eyes to fall on me as I then realise the thoughts I remembered Edward could see.

"What no way!.... Way to go Carlisle." Emmett cheered loudly.

"Emmett." I said warningly with a shake of my head. "What I get up to in my spare time is none of your concern. Now on to the pressing matter." I stay adjusting the sleeves on my shirt. "What happened out there?"

With the attention diverted, Jasper was the first to speak up. "We followed Y/n's tracks back to where she first encountered Victoria." He says.

"It was just off the hiking trail leading from her backyard." Alice chimes.

"Victoria must have been lurking nearby. We found a circle of uplifted foliage surrounded where Y/n's footsteps stopped on the trail." Rosalie adds.

"Y/n's footsteps ran off the trail headed northwest for a few yards. We found more uplifted foliage nearby and a second set of prints right next to hers. A few feet away we found a tree trunk with a dent in it." Emmett said.
