It was time for them to enjoy the freedom of no longer kneeling. Honestly, they would've preferred kneeling in silence.
Some Lan elders who were tasked to supervise the end of their punishment came to the ancestral hall and saw the bodies of the punished lads.
In the middle, a smiling Lan Xichen was meditating.
The first young master Lan opened his eyes as he saw the elders. "Is it time already?"
He stood up, looking at the motionless, non-breathing bodies of the boys behind him.
"Last to get up gets to play monopoly again."
In the speed of light, all 10 of them stood up, eyes puffed with tears, and some even had blood stains on their clothes.
One elder stuttered as he spoke. "Y-you are free to go..."
They all scurried out of the ancestral hall, not even a single word leaving their lips, leaving Lan Xichen behind.
The first young master was about to leave the ancestral hall when he was stopped by two elders.
"We are sorry for this, Lan Xichen."
"Eh?"
A needle was inserted into his neck as he fell asleep, slumping on the ground.
"Carry him now. You inform Lan Qiren that we have him and we're going to move him to the forests with his father."
"Yes."

Wei Wuxian dried his hair as he sat on his bed, combing through it as Nie Huaisang was still in the bathroom.
"You're taking forever in there, Sang-ge."
"You clogged the bamboo floor with your hair! How much do you shed?" Nie Huaisang yelled.
Wei Wuxian chuckled before getting startled by a knock. "Xian, it's me."
"Ah, Xuan. Come in, I'm dressed." Wei Wuxian placed the cloth away as he opened the door for Jin Zixuan.
Jin Zixuan pushed Wei Wuxian inside as he quickly locked the door behind him.
"Get down!" He whisper-shouted.
Wei Wuxian followed as they both ducked down, both of them moving slowly to the window as they heard voices and footsteps coming their way.
"What are we doing?" Wei Wuxian asked.
Jin Zixuan leaned closer, whispering. "I was the last one to leave—"
"Agh!!! Your breath stinks!" Wei Wuxian slapped the boy gently.
"SHH! SHUT UP!" He whispered again.
"I was the last one to leave the ancestral hall because I took a piece of money with me. I wanted to give it back to Xichen-ge, but I saw those old farts drag him away!"
"What?!"
Jin Zixuan nodded before swallowing dryly. "Then, I hid and followed behind them... But, they stopped, so I got ahead, and now I'm hiding here. They're making their way here since it's the closest to the forest."
Wei Wuxian was confused. "Why would they take him to the forest?"
"How the fuck would I know?"
Wei Wuxian bit the nail on his thumb as the footsteps got louder.
"Is the talisman ready?"
"Aiyaa. Why are we even locking this poor child up with his father?" One elder complained.
