When Lando saw the airplane window he wanted to smack himself. Now he looked like a idiot asking her out on a date while she was halfway to some other part of the world. He put his phone down and stared at the shoes sitting in the corner of his hotel room. He wanted to text Gabrielle and some part of him knew that he should, but he was so conflicted between the right thing and the selfish thing. Last night was possibly one of the best nights of Lando's life and he couldn't help but think about what that could be like in the future. More than anything, he wanted to see her face again. He wanted to talk to Gabi for hours and learn everything about her--where she grew up, what her family is like, what her goals are--even if it meant he couldn't touch her ever again.

He could never tell anyone, though.

Everyone assumed Lando was somewhat of a player, and they wouldn't be incorrect in assuming that, even Lando could admit that he messed around a bit.  But something had changed last night for him, something had clicked in his head and now he couldn't go three minutes without thinking of Gabrielle. The thought of her touch made his body heat up.

"Hello?"

Lando snapped out of his phase. "Huh?"

Max looked annoyed. "I was asking you if you were gonna eat your sandwich."

"Oh." Lando looked down at the sub. "No, all yours."

Max had picked Lando up from his hotel room that afternoon for brunch. Both boys were incredibly hungover but thankfully tea and sandwiches were always a solution.

"Jesus, just making me fatter, aren't you." Max huffed and took a bite of the sandwich, eyeing Lando. "So what's got you all quiet?"

"What do you mean, quiet?"

"You've been staring off into space for the past nine minutes straight."

"That's the unmedicated ADHD." Lando cocked an eyebrow. "I'm thinking."

Max smirked. "About who?"

"Your mum."

"Keep Celia out of this, you twat." Max sighed and put the sandwich down. "You're not gonna admit it, are you?"

"Admit what, mate?" Lando exhaled, running a hand through his hair.

"That you like her." Max glanced at Lando's phone with an eyebrow raised. "I know you texted her."

"How would you know that?"

"Because I know you!" Max sat forward. "I know you very well, asshole, and I know when you're hung up on something, so talk to me."

Lando fell quiet, glaring at Max and his annoyingly proud face.

"I don't know, okay?" Lando finally admitted. "I haven't stopped thinking about her and it's not normal."

"Aha!" Max laughed. "The truth comes out!"

Lando made a face and took a sip of his tea. "She's been the only thing on my mind. And it's never like this, so I'm freaked."

"Yeah, well you're not exactly the biggest loverboy." Max snorted then caught himself after seeing Lando's face. "I mean, you are when it matters. Maybe this matters?"

Lando groaned. His last real relationship had ended badly--he'd loved her more than anything but they had to split because of his career. The paparazzi had become unmanageable for the both of them and had made their relationship miserable. They fought nearly every day and eventually decided to split. There was no bad blood, but Lando didn't expect to be getting texts or calls anytime soon from her.

The thought of another real relationship made him uneasy. He would never admit it, but he was scared of being hurt like that again. His new reputation--the sleeping around, night life and dates--was easier, even if it created a bad image.

"Maybe." Lando didn't feel like talking about his dating life anymore. "Probably doesn't, seeing as she's on her way to another country right now."

"Well, maybe if she's still in Europe in the next few weeks she can come out to another race." Max suggested. "I don't even care about you two, I want to hang out with her again. She was cool."

"She drank half of your alcohol."

"I'm surprised she got it down." Max shook his head in disbelief. "For a little thing like her she can definitely run with the big boys. Hey, you saw Charles' comment on her Instagram, right?"

"What comment?" Lando was getting very good at pretending he didn't stalk every inch of this girls media pages.

"Charles said she should, quote, "Visit soon" with an exclamation point." Max had his phone open and was reading her comment section. "Seems inviting."

"Seems pointless." Lando sighed again--he was doing that a lot.

"You'll still text her, though." Max was hopeful, too hopeful for Lando. "Just for the gigs and shits."

"Sure, mate."

Max went back to eating his sandwich and scrolling through social media while Lando pulled his phone out again and scrolled through his and Gabi's messages. He couldn't understand her tone--he knew that she was sarcastic and dry and funny, but maybe she was just being dry to mug him off. What if he just looked stupid texting her? Lando shushed himself, he was overthinking the whole situation, and went back to drinking his tea.
