"So we're starting at nine, Jamie's opening around eight-fifteen. Have you thought about the surprise songs yet?"Daphne, Gabrielle and the managers for the show were sitting in an office, going over the plans and schedule for Monday night. The show was two days away, yet Gabi felt wildly unorganized and called a meeting in order to get everything straight.
"Pyramids and Novacane." Gabrielle nodded, looking over her setlist.
Daphne's head shot up and narrowed her eyes. "I thought you hated Novacane?"
"Well, the fans don't. Also I need VIP passes, five of them."
If Daphne's face could become even more suspicious, it did. "You're actually using the VIP passes, do you feel hot? Are you sick?"
Gabi rolled her eyes. "It's a favor. And if you bother me about this, I'll forget it."
"Fine, fine." Daphne wrote in her little notebook. "Alex, you'll get those?"
One of the crew nodded. "I'll have 'em for you by tomorrow."
"Perfect."
After their meeting, Gabi walked back to her trailer. The closest hotel in Germany was too far from the venue, so Daphne had forced Gabi to use the trailer instead. It wasn't bad--a small bed, a mini kitchen with a fridge, and a bathroom. No five star hotels, but Gabi was used to living small anyway.
She collapsed onto her bed, pulling off her hoodie and throwing it onto the ground. She glared at the notebook resting next to her, filled with scraps of chorus's and verse's that she couldn't bring herself to even look over. However, the album wasn't going to write itself so she grabbed the book and pulled a page open, reading the lines in her head.
We hit the highway 1-5-5 with my whole foot on the dash.
He's in my ear, he's got no fear, he could care less if we crash.
But on my radar, I've got some nerve to play hard
I've waited for my chance, but playboys we don't dance, dance, dance. It wasn't horrible, probably one of the better things she'd written in the past month, but that still didn't mean it was good. She'd sent the lyrics to Lilly and Bridget, both of them said it was good and that she's on the right track, but even a positive outside opinion wasn't enough to change her mind.
She fixed her attention on the buzzing coming from her phone, grinning when she saw Lando's name lighting up the screen.
"Why hello."
He facetimed her--rare since both of them were usually busy, but she'd grown to look forward to seeing his face, a thought that made her nearly break her phone in two.
"Morning, morning!" He chirped as his face came onto the screen. He was outside wearing an orange McLaren hat (his usual). "I have some time between meetings and stuff, thought I'd call you."
"How kind of you to grace me with your face." Gabrielle deadpanned while she set her phone on the nightstand so Lando could see her. "I might have time to watch the race tomorrow."
He grimaced. "Please don't."
"Why, nervous?" She teased.
"You always make me nervous, especially at one of my home races." Lando scratched his head.
Gabi paused. "Home race? You're Belgian?"
"Wow, I guess you don't know everything." Lando smiled and tilted his head at her. "My Mum is Belgian. Dad is English."
"Oh. I didn't know that." She picked up her phone again. "Here I thought you were just some boring british boy."
"Still am." Lando looked away from the camera for a moment and nodded. "Look, I've got to go. But text me details on the show for Monday. I'll probably bring two or three people, if that's okay?"
"Of course that's okay." Gabi assured him. "I have four VIP passes, and I'll text you location info on Monday morning."
"Thank you." He gave her the sweetest smile, revealing his dimples and Gabi swore she saw a twinkle in his eyes. "I'm excited. I have to go now, but I'll be thinking of you. I can't wait to see you."
Gabi cursed her phone camera for showing her blushing face as she desperately tried to play it cool.
"Go drive in circles. Try not to crash."
He stayed smiling, even when the noise in the background got louder.
"I won't. I've got too much to look forward to."
