When the plane wheels finally touched down in Germany, Gabi woke from her nap and stretched--one of those leg shaking stretches that tells you how well you slept. In her case, it was the best four hours of sleep she'd gotten in weeks.

She'd spent some time in New York with Lilly and Bridget, unfortunately having their staycation cut short when the marathon finished and the stadium opened back up for Gabi. Part of her felt nostalgic, being so close to Poland and her home country, that she even considered visiting her old town. Daphne shot the notion down, saying it would be too complicated but Gabi suspected that she was only saying that because she knew it was a bad idea. Gabi didn't have great memories in her hometown--her home life hadn't been the best, but not for lack of comfort. She was very poor at the time, only being able to eat once or twice at day, at most, and could hardly afford to live. Her parents had tried their best, however they grew as cold and harsh as the wintertime. When she realized she couldn't live there anymore, Gabi made friends with an older boy, one that she knew was leaving Poland. His name was Aaron, and with a little flirting and begging, Aaron agreed to bring her with him to the United States. She hardly spoke to him now, even though she considered him to be her first boyfriend.

Once her feet touched the American soil, Gabi swore to never think about her old life. Sure, she'd had hard days living in crappy motels and bouncing couches while doing small shows, but in her heart, Gabi knew that it was all worth it.

She released her first album four years ago, when she was seventeen. Quite young to put yourself out in the music industry, but Gabi had faith in herself and her voice. For the first few months, there was nothing. Hardly any listeners and no one seemed to really care about her. But one day, like the snap of someones fingers, her career took off. Her songs were reaching high numbers on Billboard and people started to notice her. After that, she stayed low-key: a few singles and a new album last year, one that was more mature. She was known in the music world as a "firey, smooth-voiced siren", as Stereogum had put it. But Gabi still had no idea what she was doing, and who she wanted to be.

She was so lost on what her role as an artist was, she hoped that her new album would help. Gabrielle was getting tired of being "new" and "on the rise". She felt it was her time to make her claim, and be herself. She was struggling with how to put that into words, however.

"Hey." Gabrielle snapped out of her daze as Daphne stood above her. "All good?"

"Yeah, just..." Gabi's mind drifted off. "Nothing. Just writing."

"Okay." Daphne still seemed hesitant.

Maybe it was something about being close to home, or maybe it was the new albu, but there was an imbalance in Gabi's head that was throwing her off. She just hoped she could get it together before her show.
