The boat was docked somewhere in Belize--Lando never kept track of it. But when Max had suggested going clubbing, he couldn't help but listen closer. He could admit that he missed the little joys he used to find so much adventure in.
Three drinks in (he was doing a lot of drinking on this trip). Sweating through his shirt but the cool Belize air whipped through his curls, laughter filling the silence as the group made their way through the street, not caring whether or not they were seen by pedestrians.
Some had stayed behind--Oscar, Bridget, Verstappen and Kelly.
She was here, though. Wearing a tiny little dress that Lando could imagine ripping off of her and throwing to the other side of the room. She looked so fucking perfect at night, it was something about the glow from the moon and the darkness that made Gabi look almost angelic.
She walked in front of him, giving Lando a perfect view of her behind while he tried desperately not to stare. He didn't understand--Gabi had been...nice to him, the past few days. She'd offered to refill his drinks, get something from the kitchen, she'd even said 'good morning' and gave him a small smile. At that, Lando's heart broke all over again. He wasn't going to fight her, though. This was a good thing.
Lando heard the familiar base from the club before they even turned the corner to the street. The group of them slipped through the line, Lando flashing a drunken grin at the bouncer before stepping inside.
Immediately, his eardrums were pounding as the lights flashed in front of his eyes, sending him cascading in a familiar feeling of ecstasy while he slowly made his way through the crowd. His heart pounded and he felt blood rushing to his skin, enveloped in the noise and the music.
Familiar songs played in his ears, ones that he danced to thousands of times.
Drinks moved in and out of his hands--hard to keep count.
He drank and danced and drank and danced some more until the hours flew bye.
Lando felt a tap on his shoulder, sending him spinning until he came face to face with her.
She was frowning, saying something but Lando couldn't understand her--the music was too loud.
"Huh?" Lando shook his head. He was too drunk and Gabi wasn't making any sense. She seemed to huff, grabbing onto his arm and pulling him away from the crowd, much to his whining.
Second later, doors swung open and the cool air hit Lando like a punch to the face. They were on the street.
Instinctively, he felt bile gathering in his throat and, leaning over the sidewalk, he emptied everything in his stomach onto the street.
Gabi's hand was on his neck, her fingertips tracing soft circles into his hairline and he panted, spitting the rest of his vomit out.
"You're okay." He heard her whisper, now feeling her other hand on his lower back. What was going on?
He wiped his mouth. "What are you doing? You-you're supposed to hate me."
Gabi stepped back from him, crossing her bare arms in the cold Belize night that was far too chilly for such a tiny dress she was wearing. "What are you talking about, Lando? You're realy drunk and--"
"I fucked you over." Lando faced her, stumbling over his sloppy words. "Y-you deserted me for six months and that's fine but you never even fucking listened to what I had to say?"
"I didn't want anything to do with you--"
"I fucking love you." Lando felt more vomit but he pushed it down. "It's all I've fucking felt for you and you never even gave me the chance to say it."
Her lip trembled--was he being mean to her? No, it was the wind, maybe. Lando felt his head spinning and he reached a hand out to hold onto a nearby pole.
Gabi was by his side in seconds, holding him steady.
"I didn't know what to do, the cameras were there and I was so scared." Lando hated the taste of the alcohol and the acid in his mouth. "I thought I would lose you if they found out. I didn't think I would lose you if they didn't."
Her grey eyes stared up at him and for the first time out of the whole trip, there was no anger in them. No cruelty, instead replaced with...understanding, maybe?
"I know."
Lando took her face in his hands, sending a shiver down his arms as his hot hands melted against her chilled cheek. "Then why didn't you talk to me? It killed me so bad, nothing... mattered after you. Nothing felt... right. Drinking was pointless, dancing w-was boring, music was reppettive, fuck--even breathing felt useless without you breathing next to me, Gabi! All I can think about is your touch, or your voice or even your smell and it's driven me fucking crazy.... I've suffocated without you. I fucked up so bad, so fucking bad, but I...I-I need you. You give me purpose, you give me a reason to win races and come home. You give me breath, Gabrielle. You are my breath."
His thumb ran along her lower lip, caressing her gently as a small tear ran down the side of her face.
Lando pressed his forehead against hers. "I'm...sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Their lips were so close, every nerve in Lando's body was on fire as her hands snaked their way up his arms, resting on his shoulders while he towered over her.
Gabi opened her mouth to speak but no words came out--Lando's lips were already on hers, delicately kissing her as he gaged just how horrible of a decision this was.
She pulled back, eyes wide and she paused to breathe in and out of her nose. "You're drunk."
"I want you."
"You're drunk and sad." Gabi shook her head.
"I need you."
"You broke me."
"Let me fix it."
He kissed her again, harder. Her mouth was limp against his for a moment, but with a soft inhale he felt the burn of her body against his deeped as her lips began to move in unison with his, swirling together in a whirlwind of pleasure.
Lando hooked his hand underneath her knee, hiking Gabi's leg up to lean against his hip as she gave into her own desires and ran her hands through his hair. It all felt so familiar, so routine. They fell right back into their places as if they'd never left.
Wind rustled their hair and the streetlamp above them flickered but none of that mattered because he was kissing her and he was drunk out of his fucking mind but all he knew in this moment was that Gabi was here with him, in his arms, lips against his, a faint smile.
Gabi smelled so good, just like how Lando remembered.
Pulling away, Lando caught his breath. "You're the most perfect thing in this world. You're the only perfect thing in this fucked up world and you should have never let someone as horrible as me try to ruin you."
Gabi bit the inside of her cheek. "You didn't ruin me. You're not horrible." Her hand caressed his cheek. "You're made of metal and engine, I'm made of music and words. We were bound to clash."
Lando pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her as she settled into his grasp like a puzzle piece. "I'm made of you. Always you."
