INCOMING FACETIME CALL FROM: gabrielle
Lando shot up in his bed.
What the fuck. What the fuck. What the fuck.
He wasn't prepared to call anyone, he was wearing pajama pants and a ripped hoodie that he was embarrassed to leave the house in. Lando's hands hadn't started sweating that fast since his first race. After quickly fixing his hair and adjusting the collar of his hoodie, Lando decided that he had nothing to lose and answer the facetime call.
Gabi's face appeared on screen and his lips immediately pulled into a smile. She had light makeup on and her blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail. She was smiling too as she held the phone away from her face, clearly doing something else with her hands. He couldn't tell where she was but she was alone and only a slight buzz filled her background.
"Hi, there." She chirped, glancing down at Lando who felt like he was going to faint.
"Hi," he replied and leaned the phone against his knee. "This is a surprise."
She chuckled as a loud beep filled the room she was in (elevator?). "I'm tipsy so basically nothing matters and I don't have to be worried about it."
"Good to know. Where'd your friends go?"
"They stayed out. I have writing to do so I'm on my way home." She answered before raising an eyebrow at the camera. "Also I think one of my friends wants your friend Max. Can't tell you who, though."
"Max as in Fewtrell?" Gabi nodded and Lando laughed. "Ah. I'll let him know."
"Don't sell me out, though."
"Wouldn't dare." Lando grinned. "Might need to get something in return, however."
"The memory of me should be enough to motivate you."
Lando could barely control himself. He was resisting the urge to screenshot the call (he eventually gave in five minutes later) and could fall asleep to the sound of her voice. Gabi was definitely tipsy as she had said, he could tell with how she was slightly slurring her words and the glazed over look in her eyes, but she seemed to be very functional.
"Skurwielu..." She mumbled in some language, and Lando heard a thud. "I can't unlock my fucking door."
"Alright, calm down now. Give it a nudge, don't break the damn door." While she was busy trying to drunkenly get back into her apartment, Lando took the time to fix his appearence--he fixed his hair and dimmed his lamp.
Gabi finally got into the apartment, ignoring Lando while she mumbled curses in Polish (Lando assumed), but Lando was just happy to be along for the ride.
"Yeah, well I heard that song and I thought of you. It's a good song." She finally sat down, setting her phone up against something so Lando could finally get a real look at her.
He inhaled. "If I'm being honest, I hardly remember it myself. Bit of a long night."
"Tsk tsk." Gabi wagged her finger. "Now who's the disappointment."
She shuffled some things around before bringing her full attention to Lando, resting her head on her hands while she practically stared through his soul into the camera. "Is it weird that I'm calling you? I don't want to be weird."
"It's not weird at all." Lando smiled and stared right back at her. "I was building up the courage to, but you beat me to it."
Hm." She smirked and ran a hand through her hair. "I was just thinking--why should I be nervous to talk to you? We're adults, adults aren't embarrassed."
Nervous to talk to him? Lando desperately wanted to tell her the same, that she was all he could think about, but he settled on a more casual response.
"I like speaking with you. We didn't get to do a lot of talking the other night." He wished she was with him in person, looking at her through the screen didn't do her justice. "Call me whenever you want."
And there were her dimples. She was so cute, Lando felt like throwing his phone at the wall.
"Good. Cool." She grabbed her phone again and huffed. "Amazing. I'm getting in bed, fuck this album."
Within seconds her lights were out and he couldn't see her face anymore. It was light out for Lando, so he felt bad that his phone was shining right into her face.
"Well, you're tipsy arse should sleep. Maybe we'll have a decent conversation when one of us ins't drunk sometime."
"I would love that." Her voice was quiet now. "Like, really love that."
"Goodnight, Gabrielle."
She hummed, already half asleep as Lando ended the call and, in fact, threw his phone at the wall.
