"It's race day here in Silverstone, and, let me tell you, everyone is feeling the pressure!"
The track was alive, buzzing with adrenaline and excitement as pit crews readied their equipment and news crews began their content-prowl. Drivers paced in their paddocks and managers anxiously nibbled on their fingernails, awaiting the next 76 laps to come.
One driver in particular was feeling extra nervous.
"No, tell them I can't see people before I go out." Lando ran a hand through his curls, now darker due to the shitty London weather.
"Your mum just wanted to wish you good luck." Charlotte crossed her arms in front of him and leaned on the counter. "She's not going to throw you a parade."
"Well I'm freaked out, okay? I'm nervous enough as it is, I don't need any more pressure." He hated having to admit that, but he knew that if he didn't say it straight-up, she would never let him live.
Charlotte stared at him for a few moments before reluctantly nodding and pulling out her phone. "Okay. I'll leave you to it. Then." She gave him one last look. "Good luck out there."
She shut the door behind her, leaving Lando alone in the cabin room with only himself and his thoughts, which was never exactly a good thing. Since joining McLaren, Lando had felt constant pressure to be better. He knew he was talented--he wouldn't be in Formula One if he wasn't--but sometimes he felt like he was underperforming. This year hadn't started out well either. He barely got in the points the last two races and wasn't outperforming his teammate, Oscar, the way he should be. Lando was so used to being the number two driver that he didn't realize the new position of number one driver came with so many expectations. Not only did Lando have to reach for more points, he also had to make sure he wasn't being outperformed by his rookie teammate.
Lando let out an audible sigh, running his hands through his hair again in a motion to quiet his noisy brain. Too many thoughts, focus on the race.
He stood up and grabbed his water bottle, turning to face the floor length mirror to make sure everything was in place. He opted for the white compression shirt, partly because he thought he looked better in the white one and partly because his black one had a hole in it. Besides that, normal racing shoes and a McLaren hat. Lando fixed his hair one more time and pushed himself out of the cabin, making his way towards the paddock.
