I woke up to a series of beeps. Great. I was at a hospital. Oh no! Dalton will kill me! Unfortunately, I couldn't recall the events of that morning. I know that Esme helped me, though...
"Esme...?" I whispered.
She was instantly at my side. "Yes?"
I looked up at her and winced. "My side hurts."
"I'll go get the doctor," she smiled reassuringly at me, then disappeared from the room.
I frowned. My tummy rumbled... I was starving. I looked around and saw a tray of food. Food! Just then, Esme walked in with a male doctor.
"Hello, Bella. I'm Doctor Cullen. How are you feeling?" he asked gently.
"My side hurts," I whimpered. "I'm hungry too."
"When was the last time you ate?" he questioned calmly.
"Um... school lunch, I think?
Esme gasped. Carlisle nodded.
"I'll give you a shot for the pain," he said, and walked out of the room.
"Esme, I'm hungry," I begged.
She sighed. "I'll have to ask Carlisle."
"Please, Esme, please."
She reluctantly caved. "Fine."
I smiled in victory. Soon I had a bowl of fruit in my hand and I was shoving them in my mouth hastily.
"Thank you," I said, my words garbled by fruit.
Not long after I had finished my snack, Carlisle walked in with a needle in his hand. I froze. Oh no.
"I forgot to ask. What happened?" he frowned.
"Um..." I couldn't think. Should I tell them? "I fell...?"
He sighed, clearly not believing me. I sighed too. I couldn't lie.
"Now, Bella, I'm gonna have to give you a shot so that-" Carlisle was interrupted by someone storming into the room. Dalton.
"Why, Bella, what happened to you?" he looked shocked. Though I knew that it was fake. He knew what happened to me. Of course he did. It was his fault.
"Please leave the room for a moment, sir," requested Carlisle politely.
"No," growled Dalton. "I'm her guardian."
"She has to stay here for a couple more days, so if you don't want to stay then come back tomorrow," Carlisle argued calmly.
"Fine," Dalton grumbled, then stomped out, slamming the door behind him.
"Anyways, I have to give you a shot for the pain, Bella," Carlisle said gently.
"No!" I cried.
"It will only be a little pinch, darling. It'll be over in a couple of seconds."
"Ugh, why? Tell me when you stick it in," I gritted my teeth, turning away from the needle.
It was more than a little pinch. It burned. I screamed, and Esme was desperately to calm me down, and I felt the liquid running through my veins. It was over. Tears ran down my face, and Esme was whispering gently to me.
"There, there, it's okay. All done," Carlisle nodded, then left the room.
Suddenly I felt a wave of sleepiness wash over me.
"'M so sleepy," I slurred..
"Sleep, darling. I'll be here when you wake," Esme murmured to me. "And I'll have..."
I didn't hear the rest. I was already deep asleep.
