I snatched the phone from him. "Alice?"
"Bella?!" she replied frantically while Carlisle frowned at me disapprovingly. "I thought she strangled you to death..."
"What?" I frowned, confused.
"I can see the future, remember?" she teased, giggling. "Anyways, I saw in a vision just before it happened - split second decision - that she strangled you and you died."
"I don't know, I almost died, I guess, but I didn't. Yay life,' I laughed sarcastically and Alice chuckled with me.
"Can I talk to Car-Daddy?" she asked.
"Yup," I handed the phone to Carlisle.
"Bella!" Esme's calming voice reached me.
I smiled, turning to look for her. She was just coming from the building with Edward.
"Mommy!" I cried, reaching out.
"Oh, my darling," she gasped, hugging me close.
Just then, Carlisle finished his call and gently took me from Esme, inspecting my wrist and throat.
"Let's go home," he commanded. "I need my medical things."
Esme carried me gingerly, as if I were fragile and about to die. Which the former was probably true. As soon as everybody was settled, including Edward, who I had forgotten, Carlisle started the car and we were home in record time, 3 minutes.
All the while I held my poor wrist, wondering why my hand wouldn't work any more. I couldn't move my fingers.
"What's the matter, sweetie?" Esme asked, noticing my subtle and discreet winces.
Dang, I forgot vampires had the best eyesight.
"I - can't - move - my wrist!" I wailed between sobs.
I didn't even know when I started crying.
"Aah, Vanessa must've broken her nerve endings as well as her wrist (does that even cause this?). Don't worry, when someone breaks something, this is usually normal," Carlisle explained.
"Oh."
"Don't worry, it's completely curable," Carlisle reassured me and Esme.
"Mommy, are you okay?" I asked while Edward looked at Esme.
She seemed to be crying, but there were no tears. What's happening?
