It's been a few days since I moved in with the Cullens. Alice drags me out for shopping every other day. I actually really hate shopping, but I don't want to hurt her feelings. Emmett and Jasper... well, I don't really talk to them much, I'm still scared of them. I don't see much of Carlisle, he's always at work.
Edward is really sweet, he never says no to me. He's now my best friend... but he's like 11 years older than me....
Rosalie and Esme are like my mothers, they look after me really well and feed me all the time. Luckily I don't get fat.
"Are you ready, Bella?" Esme asked me after I finished my breakfast.
"Sure!" I beamed at her.
Today I'm going to see someone called... Vanessa? The Cullens say she will help me. But I think that she'll just hate me. But Carlisle will be coming too!
"Bella!" speak of the devil. Carlisle appears in the doorway.
"Daddy!!" I jumped off my seat and ran to him.
"Are you ready to go?" he asked, taking me up in his arms.
"Yeah," I replied.
Esme walks up, Edward and Rosalie trailing behind her. Carlisle gives me to Edward and takes off for the car. I blink, and we were already in it. Carlisle revved up the engine and drove REALLY fast.
We arrived at a colourful building. Carlisle parked the car and we got off. Edward set me down and let me walk on my own, although I protested. Once we were inside, Carlisle and Esme walked over to the receptionist, said something to her, and nodded back at us.
"Vanessa will be out shortly," she had a thin, reedy voice.
We sat down on little beanbag chairs and tried to pick a game.
"Which one do you want to play?" Rosalie smiled at me sweetly.
"Um... Monopoly!" I loved that game.
I used to play it with Sarah... but I didn't play it ever since she died.
"I'm blue," I added, snatching up the blue piece.
They laughed and chose their pieces.
We had gotten halfway through the game when one of the green doors opened and a tall woman with long, curly auburn hair walked out.
"Bella Cullen?" she had a sweet, gentle voice.
"That's you," Edward whispered in my ear. "Let's go."
"I thought I was Bella Swan?" I protested quietly.
"We'll talk about this at home," he told me, picking me up.
Vanessa's room was like a nursery. There was a box of toys in a corner, and the walls were decorated with babyish stuff like smiling suns and little rainbows.
"Hello, Bella. I'm Vanessa, although you probably already know," she smiled at me as we walked in.
"Hi," I squeaked in a tiny voice.
She took a seat, gesturing for Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Rosalie and me to sit down. I sat on Esme's lap.
"Don't be scared, sweetie," she cooed. I was shaking with fear. "Are you scared?"
I shrugged and turned my head into Esme's shoulder.
"You can always talk to me, honey, that's what you're here for," she said softly.
I refused to budge.
She sighed. "Has she been naughty at home?"
"Nope," Carlisle replied. "She's actually been... a little too good for a 6 year old, actually."
"Hmm... has she said anything about Dalton?" she probed.
I jumped and clutched Esme tighter.
"It's okay, he isn't here. You don't like when I say his name, do you?" she looked at me with what seemed to be like sympathy.
"No," I whispered.
"Then shall we call him something else? D, perhaps?"
"The Devil."
They all laughed.
"Okay, then. Do you mind if I ask her a few questions about him?" she asked Carlisle.
"No, please go ahead," Carlisle replied.
Well, I minded. But whatever, I'll just get in trouble.
"Bella? Can you look at me? I just want you to answer a few questions," Vanessa asked me softly.
"No," I said into Esme's shoulder.
"Bella, she won't hurt you," Esme whispered.
"Okay then," I hesitated, but turned out of Esme's shoulder.
Vanessa smiled in victory.
"Okay. So, I was told that The Devil," she smirked at my nickname, "has hurt you before?"
I nodded.
"How?" she prompted.
When I didn't speak, she did again.
"Did he hit you?"
Tears came to my eyes as memories flew at me and I nodded, before hiding in Esme's shirt again.
"How else?" her voice was sympathetic.
I didn't speak.
"He used to kick her, throw her and beat her until she was in hospital," Carlisle answered for me.
"Oh! I'm so sorry," she sounded sincere.
I shrugged. "I wanna go home,"
"You can't," Rosalie chimed.
"Whyyy??" I whined.
"Because you have to talk to Vanessa first," Edward cut in.
I mentally groaned. Oh well, I'll just have to get it over with.
"Does she ever get like this?" Vanessa interrupted.
"Only when she's scared," Esme told her anxiously.
"Okay. Has The Devil done anything else apart from hurt you?" Vanessa asked me.
I shrugged. I didn't know what she meant, but he hadn't.
"Yes or no?" Vanessa prompted me.
I shrugged again. "He only hurt me. Like he picked me up by one arm and pulled my hair."
"Oh, okay. Same time next week?" Vanessa turned to Carlisle.
"Okay," he confirmed.
On the ride home, I didn't say anything. I was starting to get sleepy. The last thing I remembered was Edward carrying me into the house.
