Chapter 9: Bad Day

SCENE: INTERN LOCKER ROOM

(Amber changes into her scrubs as the other interns gather around her listening to how she repaired Cobra's popped hernia except for Sam who observes with jealousy)

Amber: His hernia popped through the skin. I was covered in blood and guts, but I ignored it and pressed on the hole. I couldn't call anyone because he was bleeding a lot, so I had him reach for my phone.

Dahlia: And then you called Dr. Hunt?

Amber: No, I couldn't call anyone in the hospital because of the stupid hackers so I had him call 911 and had them call Dr. Hunt.

(The interns oohed and awed as Sam irritably put her scrubs on)

Amber: Hunt had to let me scrub in, so I hopped on the cart, and we rolled to the OR together. He let me clamp the aorta, it was so exhilarating.

Levi: I bet.

Amber: And not just because I clamped it but because I had to do it super-fast, like lightning fast. I grabbed the clamp as fast as I could and clamped the aorta just as fast despite the bleeding. The bleeding stopped and things were mostly smooth sailing.

Vik: Mostly?

Amber: Cobra crashed during surgery, but Dr. Hunt and I were able to bring him back.

Taryn: Wow, you're like a certified bad ass!

Dahlia: Totally.

Levi: Amazing.

Vik: Nice work Barbie, maybe I should start calling you Supergirl

Amber: (Shrugs) Eh, I'll take it, it's better than Barbie.

(Sam slams her locker loudly startling Amber and the others)

Sam: Yes! Yes! We get it she is a bona fide hero who did the impossible on a really crappy day! Well guess what all of us did that to by keeping things stable in an unstable environment including Glasses who turned into Blood Bank, so can we just stop talking about what happened last week?!

(A silent moment passes in the room)

Vik: She's mad because these two saved two lives that day while she almost ended one.

(Laughter erupts)

Sam: I didn't kill anyone!

Amber: You defibrillated a man who wasn't coding, I know because I was there. If you turned the voltage up more, he would be a rotisserie.

(Vik laughs as Amber puts on her coat and approaches Sam with a smug smile)

Amber: Don't be jealous Sam, just because me and Schmitt saved people that day while you didn't doesn't make us better than you it just...wait it does make us better than you.

(More chuckles erupt as Amber leaves the room)

Sam: I don't like her.

Taryn: (Looking at her phone) I don't like you.

(Sam and the interns look at her and she looks up from her phone)

Taryn: Did I say that out loud?

A LITTLE WHILE LATER ON THE PEDS FLOOR

(Amber approaches Alex as she's on his service)

Amber: (Singing) Hello!

Alex: You're in a good mood.

Amber: I am, the interns can't get enough of me. Ever since I saved that biker with the hernia, they've been treating me like I'm their intern goddess. It's great I now know why I decided to get into medicine.
