Chapter 8: Enough

SCENE: Jo and Alex's loft

(Amber puts her things in her purse while Alex and Jo make breakfast)

Amber: Hey have you guys seen my Chapstick? I swear it was in my purse.

Jo: Did you check the bathroom?

Amber: Yes. You know what forget it, I'll buy another one on my way.

(Amber grabs a piece of toast from Alex's plate and eats it)

Amber: (Mouth full) Did you guys make an appointment with the cops?

Alex: Yeah, we're meeting them at the station this afternoon.

Jo: It won't matter, they won't do anything until he actually attacks me.

Alex: That's not gonna happen okay, I promise. I'll even install a security camera if it'll make you feel better. And maybe some cool lasers like those action movies show.

(Jo slightly chuckles)

Amber: I have to go; I'm on Shepherd's service today. (Starts to leave) First day on neuro! Wish me luck!

Alex: Good luck!

(Amber leaves the loft with her toast in hand)

AN HOUR LATER IN THE PIT

(Amber enters the pit to get a hit and run with a head lac when she sees Alex and Jo standing outside a trauma room)

Amber: Hey, what are you two doing here? I thought you had the day off.

(Jo motions to the trauma room and Amber is shocked to see Paul Stadler unconscious and hurt badly)

Amber: (Scared) What did you two do?

Alex: We didn't do this; you saw us at home. It was a hit and run the paramedics said they caught him less than an hour ago.

Amber: (Relieved) Okay so it wasn't you guys thank God, I'm not sure the cops will buy it.

(Meredith enters the ER in her casual clothes and is also shocked at the situation as Alex, Jo, and Amber look at Paul through the window)

Meredith: What did you do?

Alex: Once again, we didn't do this.

Jo: My card was in his pocket, so they called me. But we were at home, we were having breakfast.

Amber: I can vouch for that; they were at home when I left and Stadler was hit not long after.

April: Can I get a hand in here?!

Meredith: Go to the attendings lounge on three, and don't talk to anybody.

(Jo and Alex left as Amber and Meredith start walking to the trauma)

Meredith: Do not say a word to the cops.

Amber: I grew up in the ghetto I know the drill.

(Both women enter the trauma room where Paul groans loudly in pain)

Meredith: Hit and run?

April: Yes. He's just waking up now. Dr. Stadler, calm down. We're trying to help you, okay? Feel a little stick here.

(April inserts a needle into his head causing him to scream, Amber stands by frozen in fear for her brother)

Meredith: Are there any suspects?

April: Why would I know that?

Meredith: Okay, you can't lose him.

April: I don't intend to.
