MINUTES... HOURS... DAYS... WEEKS...
I saw the knob of my door opening.
I stared at it till it opened.
Gem came in and was surprised to see me in the kitchen. I still wore the gray long-sleeved shirt folded to my elbow and black trousers.
She was in a fitting shirt and jeans, parang teenager.
"Di ba sa office ka galing?" I asked her.
She nodded. "Good evening."
I smiled. May meeting ako sa labas ng office kaya hindi kami sabay nakauwi but she promised that she would drop by after office hours.
Pumayag ako sa desisyon niya na hindi muna umuwi completely sa akin. I knew this would have to change soon but I didn't want to pressure her. I can wait a little longer.
She walked towards me at tumayo sa gilid ng counter. She was looking at what I was doing. "Need help?" she asked.
I was surprised.
Gem was no homemaker. She couldn't cook, wouldn't do the dishes, or even the laundry and ironing, which was okay because the maid could do those. But I wanted her to learn to cook, kahit iyon lang.
To answer her, I shook my head. "Matatapos na ako. How's the office?"
"Okay, lang." She was struggling to sit on top of the granite counter.
I walked to her and lifted her by her waist. She was petite, I love that. "Bakit parang something is bothering you?"
"Wala, ah!" she said defensively.
I stood in between her legs and kissed her lips. "Hmm, mayroon, eh. Bakit ba?"
She played with the collar of my shirt. "Kanina nagkita kami ni Barbara sa loob ng CR."
