Monday. School. Algebra. Elijah.
"Ughhh." I groaned.
When Elijah sent me the text on Saturday night I never replied, so he'd probably try to talk to me about it today. I didn't want to talk to him after that. I wasn't mad at him, it would just be unbelievably awkward.
His apology was insignificant because he had nothing to apologize for...
I'd rather have things go back to normal.
After I checked the time and my schedule, I quickly hopped in the shower and got ready for school.
I left the house wearing black jeans with a black and white stripped shirt, a tan sweater cardigan thing, and black tennis shoes.
(her cute lil outfit:))
I drove to the school and parked in my usual spot. I made it to my locker without any trace of Elijah.
So far, so good.
I told Lily and Phoebe about the text Elijah sent me. They thought it was cute...I thought it was strange.
"Are you going to talk to him?" Phoebe asked as I sorted my things and placed them into my locker.
"I don't know." I whined defeatedly. "I'm not really in the mood."
"You're going to have to sometime so why not now?" Lily pointed out.
"If he tries to talk to me, I'll talk to him. If he doesn't, then I won't either. There's no point in bringing something up if it's not even a thing that needs to be brought up in the first place." I explained briefly. Phoebe and Lily both sighed and the bell rang.
"We'll finish this at lunch, we need updates." Lily called to Phoebe and I as we headed to our classes.
Algebra went by painfully and slowly. It felt like I was in that class all day. By the time second period rolled around, I was ready to go home.
As I took my regular seat in English, I noticed Ally wasn't there again. Just my luck.
Right as the bell rang, Elijah walked in. He looked around the class and his warm brown eyes met mine. I looked down as he started to make his way to the seat next to mine.
He plopped down in Ally's desk and immediately leaned over to me, "Did you get my text?" He asked speaking in a hushed voice as the class was just starting. Instead of saying anything, I gave him a small nod. "And...?" He trailed off.
I worked up the courage to speak, "And, I'll talk to you later, class is starting." His eyebrows knit together and he looked disappointed, but he didn't say anything else.
The teacher talked the whole time so I didn't have to worry about Elijah trying to talk to me again.
When class was finally over I hurried out of the room to my locker in hopes of avoiding Elijah. I was fine with never talking to him again. My life with him in it would be way too complicated. His reputation made me way too...on edge anyways.
I just didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing yet.
As soon as I put my stuff away, I practically ran to the cafeteria, meeting Lily at the doors.
"Hey, lets go sit down." I said breathlessly.
"What's your deal?" She asked as we made our way into the lunch room. I shrugged in response but the truth was, I knew we'd be safe at our table.
Elijah stayed with his friends at lunch. He had a social life to keep up so he wouldn't waste his precious time. We had a few of the same friends, but we were definitely not in the same friend group.
As soon as we sat down I let out a deep breath. "Did you guys talk?" Phoebe asked almost instantly.
"Um, no, we didn't." I mumbled and started to get my lunch out of my bag.
"Oh, wel-" Phoebe stopped mid-sentence.
"What?" I asked.
"He's coming over?" Lily said confused, almost as a question.
I looked over my shoulder and see Elijah who offered me a smile that I didn't return.
"Hey, Bella." He said.
Phoebe and Lily exchanged a look and both mumble something about giving us space and left to the bathroom.
"Hey, Elijah. Um, what do you need?" I asked, mentally cursing myself as I tripped over my words.
"I'm sorry." He said softly. He found the seat next to me but I didn't look into his penetrating gaze.
"For what? You didn't do anything wrong." I replied, focusing on my food.
"For not saying thank you, and not talking to you for a week. A bunch of shit went down and, ya..." he trailed off. "The good news though, is that Alex and I are good and Makenzie and I are in the clear." He explained.
"Oh, well good for you." I said trying to sound happy. Him getting back together with Makenzie was hardly good news. In fact, anything to do with her was bad news. I had disliked her for a long long time. "And you really don't need to apologize. I've gone my whole life not talking to you, I can handle a week. Plus, we aren't really even friends..." I trailed off awkwardly. Hopefully he didn't get offended.
"Oh, yeah," He said and rubbed the back of his neck, "well thanks anyways." He said awkwardly. He then got up from the table and took a few steps away.
A pang of guilt immediately hits me in the chest and I curse to myself. Frick, now I was going to have to apologize.
I got to my feet quickly and jogged after him. "Elijah, wait," My voice raised louder than I desired causing a few heads to turn.
Eli, being one of the heads, turned around quickly and I stared into his soft brown eyes before speaking up, "I'm sorry, that was really, really rude." I winced.
"It's fine, I get it, you don't want anything to do with me." He spit out, doing a bad job at concealing his anger.
Talk about bipolar.
I was a bit taken aback by his comment and his tone.
"No, it's not that." I denied his statement. "I just, I get nervous when you're around because you have all these friends and you do adventurous things and everybody worships you and I'm just not like that... I guess I'm just kinda confused as to why you talk to me because we're so, so different and-"
"Bella." Eli said my name softly and I found myself wanting him to say it again.
"Sorry." I said breathlessly, looking down in embarrassment.
"You really need to stop saying sorry, I'm the one who should be. So do you forgive me?"
"I told you, you don't need to apologize Elijah..." I said quietly.
"Then can we be friends?" He asked still amused at me.
"Friends." I repeated. With that, Eli reaches his hand out between us. I took his hand in mine and shook it several times.
We both looked into each others eyes before smiling, chuckling, and turning away from each other to head our separate ways.
