I looked straight into Eli's eyes as we finally made eye contact for the first time since last night.
His injuries looked a lot better now that they had had some time to heal and I could see them properly.
His right cheekbone had a light purple bruise while his eyebrow had butterfly strips above it to close the cut that had been given to him there.
He looked a lot more rested than he had last night, which wasn't saying much. A zombie would've looked more awake than Elijah had last night. That being said, you could definitely tell that he still needed to take a very very long nap.
"Elijah, hey." I said slowly, responding to him.
"Um, what are you doing here?" He questioned looking back at his mom with a curious look.
Good question, what was I doing here? I honestly didn't even know. Was I really just going to confront him about what had happened last night? How would one even go about doing that?
Hey Eli! You came to my house super drunk and super emotional last night and then slept in my bed and we snuggled, care to explain?
Ha, ya, no way.
"Um," I started but realized I didn't know where I was headed with my sentence, "I just came to check in on you..." I trailed off awkwardly.
"Bella here wanted to make sure you were ok after what went on at Pete's last night." Darcy chimed in, saying the same name Eli had been saying last night. I assumed by saying 'what went on at Pete's last night', Darcy was referring to the fight.
But Pete, who the hell was this Pete guy?
"You had the poor girl worried about you, you should really let her know what's going on in that thick skull of yours." Darcy said in a joking tone that somehow still implied seriousness.
I became very glad for her presence here at the moment as she was saying things that I wanted to but wouldn't ever have the guts to.
A chuckle escaped Eli's lips as he ran a hand through his hair with his eyes closed.
"Didn't know I meant that much to you Langley." Eli joked and opened his eyes to look at me with a teasing grin.
Ok, how in the world was everybody being so nonchalant about all of this?
Wasn't it not good for teenagers to get drunk and fight people or was that just me?
"Stop being a flirt and take a shower Elijah Cohen." Darcy shoo'd him away.
Eli just laughed and picked his things up from the floor, walking out of the kitchen and up a set of lovely wooden stairs.
Once he was out of view I turned back to Darcy, my brain still turning with a million and three questions.
"Excuse him." Darcy said taking a sip of her warm tea, "he doesn't usually like talking about serious subjects in such a casual setting. Like I was saying earlier, it's hard for him to trust people enough to get to the nitty gritty details of his life."
Ahhhh that made more sense.
"Darcy," I paused and pursed my lips in thought, "you know about Elijah and everything that he goes through with the fights and the alcohol and all that stuff, so why are you so relaxed with it all?" I asked cautiously, not trying to insult her parenting in any way.
Darcy smiled sweetly like she knew my intentions in asking the question were pure. "It's difficult to know what to do in these kinds of situations, especially as a parent who just wants the best for their child." Darcy talked and I listened intently, soaking up every word incase she decided that Eli would have to tell me the rest.
