Tuesday, February 14th

I take a last glance at the living room and smile at my work. Delicate roses have been set in light pink vases above the fire place, the normal blue grey pillows of the couch have been swapped out with other pillows, decorated with the words love and valentine, and heart decorations litter the whole house.

All Saturday and Sunday I went shopping for decorations and put some of the old ones up. Emma finally came back in town and she helped me set up for Valentines which happens to be today.

Jake and my dad are going out to do manly things like football games and drinks on this beautiful day of love so they won't lose their 'man cards'; typical boys.

I do know that Jake is caving into the romance of the holiday tonight as he has a surprise for Emma. Obviously he has to wait until tonight so that after he feels manly enough from his day with my dad he can be mushy without being made fun of. I find it quite funny but I also admire a guy who doesn't care about all of that either.

As for me, Aidan and I are waiting to go on a date until this weekend because Valentines is on a school night this year. He wanted to come over today, but I told him I had to keep up my schedule and do some homework. He was upset at first, but he said that he wanted to make our first Valentine's Day together special anyways so he could wait until the weekend. For that I admire him.

With all the house decorated and my breakfast downed, I shout goodbye to Emma and my mom, probably waking up the rest of the house, and head to school in my outfit specifically set out for today. I'm cheesy like that, deal with it.

As I exit my car from the school parking lot I adjust my red and white striped sweater and brush off my old denim jeans. The sweater provides warmth in the cold weather.

Aidan appears in front of the school with a smile larger than Africa and his arm behind his back as he walks happily towards me.

"Happy Valentine's Day beautiful." He says sweetly, the smile still plastered on his face. As he speaks, he takes his arm from behind his back and shows me a single red rose, perfect in every way with bright petals and a big blossom.

I feel my face become red as my cheeks raise into a smile. The rose is handed to me and I'm careful not to prick my finger. I bring the flower to my nose and inhale, taking in all the smells the flower holds. The smell brings an even bigger smile to my face and I look up to see Aidan with anxious eyes and his lip between his teeth, probably hoping I'm pleased with his gift.

My smile answers all his questions and he emits a small sigh of relief before wrapping his strong arms around me, pulling me into a hug. I gladly hug him back, lulled by the embrace, and whisper a thank you in his ear. We pull apart and I see his face dotted with sheepish red specks.
