Falling

Chapter 24

That evening, Lena found herself in the grocery store, trailing behind an overly excited Skylar as she squealed about what to cook. Lena had offered to order in but the tall brunette was insistent on eating something homemade. They had left Ruby with Kara at the penthouse per Skylar's request as the older wanted to surprise the younger.

"Skylar, we have been here for an hour. Are we done?" Lena is not one to complaim but she didn't see the reason in spending time here much longer as they had already gottem most of their stuff.

"Almost done. Just need to get the steak." Skylar chuckled and led them to the raw meat section.

Lena walked through the door with a huff, Kara immediately by her side to assist her in carrying the heavy bags. Lena glanced at Skylar who was hadn't broken a single sweat. Skylar quickly sorted all the bags and shooed everyone out of the kitchen.

Offended in getting rejected, Lena and Kara entered the living room to find Ruby watching some show.

"Did Skylar shoo you out of the kitchen?" Ruby asked seeing the two adults. When they nodded, Ruby let out a laugh and beckoned them over to sit with her on the couch.

"Eliza would love her." Kara said and Lena nodded in agreement.

Skylar looked at all the ingredients that could serve a whole village. She quickly rolled her sleeves and started on her dishes, not wanting the rest to be hungry. Especially Kara.

Two hours and multiple check ins from Kara and Lena later, the food was finally done. Lena and Kara begged to help out and Skylar relented, asking them to prep the table. Skylar quickly transferred all the dishes to the table and the three looked at ger expectantly.

"Dinner is served." The moment the words left her mouth, Kara, Lena and Ruby immediately dugged in which made Skylar smile in amusement. Skylar had made steak with a generous amount of mashed potatoes and broccoli for the adults while Ruby had specifically requested aglio oglio.

Not long after, Kara and Lena moaned at the flavour. Skylar turned red and gaped at the sounds they made while Ruby glanced between the three, a knowing glint in her eyes.

"Skylar, this is delicious."

"Is there more?"

"There's more in the back. I made extra just in case." Skylar said, winking to Kara who only reddened at the act while Lena chuckled.

"Thanks for the food, Sky. It was delicious." Ruby announced with her mouth full of spaghetti and headed to wash the dishes. Skylar smiled softly and continued eating her food.

After multiple protests, Skylar allowed Lena and Kara to wash the remaining dishes while she picked out a movie to watch. Ruby had got into bed early which seems questionable but Skylar didn't want to push. Soon enough, Lena and Kara joined Skylar in watching Into The Woods.

The three of them were peacefully watching the musical but some incessant beeping was heard by both Kara and Skylar. Alarmed, Kara got up and discreetly notified Lena. The two of them had to make an excuse to Skylar and went to follow the noise while Skylar had to act like it didn't bother her.

While Kara was inspecting, the beeping merely got louder for Skylar, almost like the noise was hammering in her head. She stood up and once she did, she heard multiple screeches and noticed her powers were in a frenzy. The pain was too much, instantly falling to her knees and covered her ears in pain, let out a shout.

On the other hand, Kara and Lena found a weird looking box sitting atop Lena's office desk.

"When did that get there?" Lena turned to Kara and both shared a look of confusion.

They were about to inspect it but a shout from the living room caught their attention. Kara and Lena rushed into the living room to find Ruby staring at Skylar who was on her knees. The two looked at Skylar in shock as her whole body had a blue lightning travelling around.

Lena and Kara stepped infront of Ruby, in hopes of protecting the younger one. Skylar noticed their presence and immediately backed away.

"Stay back!" Skylar shouted and moved even further back, her back hitting the balcony door.

"Skylar, what's going on?" Kara asked once Lena and Ruby were out of the penthouse.

"Get me out of here! Now!" Skylar demanded and Kara wasted no time in changing to her supersuit, flying them just outside the city.

Landing, Kara was immediately pushed back, making her land a few feet away from Skylar. She glanced worriedly at the brunette as she was still groaning in pain. The lightning around her body had become bigger, acting as a shield. Suddenly, DEO vans parked behind her and Alex came out holding a gun.

"What are you doing? You can't shoot her." Kara marched to her sister.

"We'rs only going to tranquilize her. We don't know if she's a threat to us or not. We haven't had an incident like her since Livewire."

"She's not a threat. Something's happening to her." Kara explained but multiple agents had already began to move towards Skylar.

As the agents approached her, the lightning was suddenly gone and Skylar started to sway. Kara took this opportunity to speed her way to the brunette and caught her before she fell.

In her arms, Skylar tiredly leaned into Kara's shoulder, feeling a great sense of comfort and safety.

"I'm okay, Kara." Skylar mumbled tiredly.

Kara flew them to the DEO where Lena immediately rushed them to one of the medbay beds. Once Skylar was on the bed, Kara stood to the side and let Lena do the necessary checks. While taking a blood sample, Kara noticed Lena's hands were shaking and she made a mental note to check on her when this is over.

Walking out, Kara had informed Alex and a couple other agents to go to the penthouse for the box. After that was done, she went on to find Lena who had been sitting next to Skylar.

Sighing, Kara walked over to Lena and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Lee, you should rest. Don't think I didn't notice you shaking while checking on Skylar." Kara spoke as softly as she could, not wanting her Lena to shut her out completely.

Nodding, Lena allowed Kara to guide her to one of the bedrooms and once the door was shut, Lena immediately seeked comfort in Kara's arms. She let out a shaky breath when she felt strong arms encircling her back and not long after, she felt her shoulder getting wet. Kara had shed tears of her own.

It has been apparent how much Skylar meant to the two of them but they just couldn't seem to indulge in that thought with one thing holding them back; Each other.

Welpp, this chapter has not been one of my best but its something. I'm trying to update consistently but with my internship I might take longer than usual to update.
