Elwia didn't see Malfoy for the rest of the week. At first she merely thought that he was just bitter after what had happened on Tuesday during D.A.D.A. class, but by Thursday, she quickly realised something else was up; she just didn't know what. It's not like she cared, she finally got some peace of mind after his leave. But it kind of worried her that even the rest of the group thought it was unlike him to do something like that, and they had known Malfoy for over 6 years. Elwia had to admit it though, the atmosphere was much more positive without him.
It was Sunday, and the group still hadn't seen a single sighting of Malfoy. It was getting really weird, because on Tuesday there would be the first quidditch match of the season and it was Slytherin vs. Gryffindor, which meant that Malfoy's presence would be very essential since he was the best seeker Slytherin had. All of Slytherin would be devastated if they were to lose against Gryffindor, even Elwia would be, but only because of them losing; she didn't really care for the house prejudices. She just didn't like being a loser.
Elwia and the group were sitting in the common room, all of them planning the afterparty if Slytherin were to win. Obviously, none of them used the word 'if'; they spoke as if Slytherin had won already.
"We need lots of alcohol, that's for sure." Theo said with a serious tone.
"Absolutely agree, mate." Blaise answered.
"You two are 16 and already alcoholics." Elwia said with a somewhat concerned tone.
Theo was about to say something, but he got cut off by the sound of the common room door opening. Malfoy walked in looking more pale than ever, and his under eyes being disturbingly dark.
"Where were you?" Blaise asked, looking concerned.
"Doesn't matter." Malfoy muttered and scratched his left arm, "Pucey, Nott, Zabini, my room, now." The boys followed him without objection and left the girls sitting on the sofa.
"What the hell was that? Why did Malfoy look so sick?" Elwia asked, confused, and looked at Astoria and Pansy.
"I don't know, but I have a gut feeling that it has something to do with the Dark Lord and death eaters." Pansy whispered and started biting the skin around her nails. That was a habit Elwia had noticed Pansy doing a lot this week.
"You mean he who must not be named?" Elwia asked in a shocked manner and continued, "What would Malfoy have to do with him?"
"Oh, I sometimes forget you're not from here. Death eaters are followers of the Dark Lord, and almost every family member Draco has is a death eater." Pansy explained.
"I fear that he might be forced to become a death eater or perhaps he already is one..." Astoria said quietly.
Elwia didn't know how to feel about the information she had received. She hated Malfoy but deep inside she didn't think it rightful to force someone so young to be a death eater.
"Adrian, Blaise, and Theo also might become death eaters. All of their family have a history of following the Dark Lord." Astoria sighed.
"That's terrible..." Elwia muttered.
The room fell into silence, a comfortable one, and the girls sat on the sofa with their heads resting on each other's shoulders.
The boys didn't come out of Malfoy's room, so the girls decided to go to sleep. Elwia couldn't sleep, though. Her mind was worried about Theo, Blaise, Adrian, and perhaps even Malfoy. None of them deserved any of that. They were just teenagers.
Elwia didn't know much about the Dark Lord, because in France, no one was really worried about him. Most of the people were so naive as to think that he was some kind of myth. It was ridiculous.
The day turned into Monday and the first class of the day was going to be potions. There was no laughing or bickering at breakfast, or on the way to class; everyone was awfully quiet.
"Today we will be making a Draught of Living Death. You won't be making this one in pairs. The best potion will win this vial of Felix Felicis. Do any of you know what it is?" Snape asked, raising a small vial in his hand.
Elwia raised her hand.
"Ms. Delacour."
"It's a potion that makes its drinker extraordinarily lucky for a period of time. It's also known as liquid luck. The making of the potion takes six months." Elwia answered, and Snape nodded with a satisfied look.
"Good, 5 points to Slytherin." Snape said. Elwia smiled and glanced at Malfoy and saw that he was looking at the vial with an intense look.
"Your time starts now."
Making the potion was one hell of a mess. Adrian's face had gotten dirty from smoke since his potion had exploded in his face. Astoria wasn't even trying; she was painting her nails. Pansy had "gone" to the bathroom about 25 minutes ago, and Theo and Blaise were throwing ingredients at one another. It seemed like Elwia and Malfoy were the only ones at our table who were actually trying. For some reason, a part of her wanted to try to start a conversation with him.
"Are you going to play on Tuesday?" Elwia asked while stirring her potion.
"It's not like I have a choice. The whole Slytherin house would murder me if I didn't play." Malfoy said in a surprisingly jokeful manner.
Elwia let out a small laugh and dropped a sloth brain in the cauldron.
"How are you?" Elwia asked carefully after a few seconds of pondering whether to ask it or not. Malfoy looked at Elwia with a weird look.
"I'm perfectly well; why wouldn't I be? How about you mind your own business." Malfoy scoffed, ending their conversation there.Elwia rolled her eyes. She now remembered why talking to Draco Malfoy was never a good idea.
The potion book Elwia was using was very weird. She had forgotten to bring her own, so she had to use a spare one, and it was full of someone else's notes and their own instructions. Her potion ended up looking good though, so she didn't mind.
It was time for Snape to examine everyone's potion. Elwia was tapping her leg on the floor anxiously. She really wanted to get the vial of liquid luck; she could use it to help the boys with whatever they were going through. Her plans didn't really go further than that; she had no idea how she could help them, but a girl could always dream. And overall, having a vial of liquid luck just in case never hurt anyone, right?
Snape came by Elwia's and Malfoy's potion. His face didn't have any reaction to Malfoy's potion and Elwia could see from the corner of her eye that Malfoy's face dropped in disappointment.
"It's perfect, well done once again, Ms. Delacour. You clearly have extraordinary skills in potions. 20 points to Slytherin, and I will gladly grant you this vial of Felix Felicis." Snape said unusually nicely and slipped the vial into the girl's pocket.
With a swish of his wand, all the cauldrons disappeared, and the ingredients flew back to the cabinets.
"On Wednesday, we will be making Amortentia. I expect no funny stuff from any of you." He said sternly and left the classroom.
"Nicely done, Wia. I didn't know you were so good at potions." Astoria smiled and hooked her hand through Elwia's.
"I'm not always a tryhard, only sometimes." Elwia giggled.
"Do you already know what you're going to use it for?" Astoria inquired.
"I have some ideas." Elwia answered with a smile while toying with the vial in her pocket.
