The car ride was excruciatingly long for Olivia. She couldn't wait to get out and stretch. Leon looked down at the picture of Ashley Graham, the president's daughter.
"So, tell me, Yanquis" One of the Spanish police officers said "Why did you come to this horrible place? As close to nowhere that I've ever seen?"
Leon leaned against the door frame "Let's just say - Looking for someone"
"That someone must be very important, eh?" The officer replied "The chief gave the orders himself. "Help them," He said"
"Well, I'm sure you boys didn't come all the way out here to roast marshmallows... or maybe you did" Leon joked.
Although most of the Leon Olivia once knew was gone, she was glad he still had a part of the humour. She smiled at the thought.
"You have a strange sense of humour," The officer told Leon "I'm gonna let you in on a little secret, just between us. A lot of people have gone missing around here. And it's been that way for a while now"
Leon and Olivia looked over at each other, their interest piqued. Olivia shrugged, leaning back, trying to stretch as much as possible because the drive there was getting painfully long.
"Well, then... should be just another day in the office, right?" Leon stated.
"I mean, last week there was a search for some missing hikers" The officer replied.
"I'm sure you'll do your best to help us" Leon said.
His voice was deeper and raspier and it was more monotone than the softer and jokier voice he had when he and Olivia met.
The car began slowing down and it excited Olivia. "I think this is it" The officer told them "Nature calls, eh? I'll be right back"
"Me too," Olivia said but as she was about to get out of the car, Leon put a hand on her thigh gently, stopping her from going.
It sent shivers down her spine when he touched her. His hand felt familiar but much different than before. Leon thought the same. She had a familiar feeling but when he touched her, it was different. There was a bigger spark between them.
Olivia looked over at him, narrowing her eyebrows in question as to why he stopped her. She was about to die from unstretched muscles and unclicked bones. There was so much tension in her body and she needed to get it out.
Leon shook his head, signalling for her not to get out of the car without him. He still felt protective over her after all those years. He was not about to let her go into the woods by herself and lose her... again but for a permanent time.
Olivia understood and obliged with a huff. The police officer in the driver's seat got out cigarettes "You smoke?" He asked Leon and Olivia.
Leon didn't say anything, just put his arm up in refusal but Olivia took a cigarette out and lightened it. "Thanks"
Leon looked over at her with a 'really' expression and Olivia narrowed her eyebrows at him, taking a puff. Suddenly, Leon remembered that she wasn't the same she was 6 years ago... they were strangers getting to know each other again.
After Olivia finished her cigarette, she threw it out of the car window and noticed that the officer was taking his time to get back. "Maybe you should go and take a look," The officer told them.
Leon got out first, signalling for Olivia to wait. He looked around for any threat and waved his hand over for her to join behind him. So she did.
"I'll watch the car. Wouldn't want to get a parking ticket" The officer said and it made Olivia scowl.
