Chapter Twenty-Eight

They all ran in and Olivia and Leon quickly shut the door behind them. Ashley put her hands on her knees, tired from the running as Olivia stood with her, her hand on her shoulder in comfort whilst Leon narrowed his eyebrows intimidatingly at Luis and exclaimed "You!"

"Hey... Listen, about earlier, I-" Luis said, walking backwards as Leon walked confidently forward.

"Yeah, about that" Leon replied, pushing Luis against the wall.

"Hey, I see you found your missing senorita" Luis looked over at Ashley and Olivia scoffed.

"The senorita has a name, and it's Ashley" The girl said "And you are?" he questioned, getting closer to Luis.

"Name's Luis" He responded "Encantado"

"Great" Leon snapped "We all have names. Now then-" He grabbed Luis forward and then pushed him back against the wall which earned a groan from Luis "Who are you? And what're you doing here?"

"Very good questions, unfortunately," Luis answered, looking out the window.

Olivia looked over in the direction he was looking and saw that the infected villagers got through the gate. "Hide. Now" Leon said to Ashley.

"In that case, here," Luis said, walking to a crate "Help me"

"Ashley, over here" Leon said, holding the crate up with his shoulder and Ashley crawled in. Leon dropped it down, hiding Ashley in.

Luis defended the building as Olivia and Leon quickly covered the doors and windows. Leon got grabbed by one of the villagers and Olivia turned in the direction of his voice, pointing the gun at the villager who was trying to strangle Leon.

"Shit" Olivia muttered.

"Liv, shoot it!" Leon yelled.

"It's right next to your head!" Olivia yelled back

"I trust you!" Leon groaned out, his oxygen running low.

Olivia took a deep breath and aimed the gun at the villager and right before it could move, she shot it in the head, exploding its head. Leon gasped his breathing back and colour went back into his face again.

Olivia helped him up and Leon thanked her "I told you, you could do it"

The girl smiled and then got back to killing the rest of the villagers in the building. Unfortunately, as soon as they finished blocking off the doors and windows downstairs, there were more upstairs so when Olivia ran up, Luis and Leon followed.

The three of them ran up and down the stairs, helping one another in killing the Ganados.

"Looks! We've got a big one on our hands!" Luis exclaimed, referring to the Brute.

"Little busy at the moment!" Leon yelled back, killing off more villagers with Olivia.

"Hey, our guests will think we're rude! So much for service with a smile, huh!" Luis said "But I guess bullets work just as well"

Olivia placed a grenade on the stairs and then called out to Luis "Dude, you talk way too much!"

She then helped Luis in killing the Brute. Once it was dead, Ashley ran into the building, yelling "Leon! Olivia! This way, hurry!" She then ran out.

Leon, Luis and Olivia turned their attention towards Ashley and ran after her. Leon paused the running and turned to the Ganados running after the four of them. He pointed the gun at one of them and then looked over at the chains holding the draw bridge open and then shot at it, locking us on the other side.

All of them were out of breath and panting, not talking to each other until Ashley began coughing up blood and panicking "Wh-what's happening to me?"

Luis walked towards the girl "Ashley. Is this the first time you've coughed up blood like this?" Ashley nodded, still worried about herself.

"You wanna start explaining?" Leon asked, worried about himself too. Olivia was looking at everyone in worry, knowing that Leon also coughed up blood like Ashley.

"The cough, the blood - it's caused by something called a... 'Plaga'" Luis explained. Leon, Ashley and Olivia all looked at each other. "Okay. You saw those "People", right?" He continued "Well, you have the same thing inside you. The same thing that made them like that" Olivia's worries got higher "This, what you're experiencing, these symptoms... they're only the beginning"

"I don't want to become like them," Ashley said, concerned.

"You are, well, lucky" Luis added "You see, at this early stage, the parasite - the plaga, it is possible to remove it with a surgical procedure and all you need is some know-how. And, oh yeah, the right equipment" Luis said and uncovered that he had a scar on his chest.

"You too?" Olivia questioned.

"No worries. See, I have a plan but you're going to have to trust me" Leon, Ashley and Olivia nodded at each other.

Olivia said "We have no choice"

"Great! We're partners then"

"Hey, why are you-" Leon got cut off by Luis.

"No time for any questions. The clock is ticking!"

"Why are you helping us?" Leon finished.

As Luis began to walk forward, he answered "Because it makes me feel better. Let's leave it at that. I will contact you later" He held up a radio. 

Olivia hears a voice through her earpiece when Luis leaves. "This is Roost. I've got some bad news, Condor Two. With the weather like this, the chopper can't make its approach. Can you stand by until it clears?"

"Negative" Olivia says and it piques Leon's and Ashley's interest "Too dangerous. We're gonna get out of here and find someplace safe"

"I'm sorry, I wish I could do more to help"

"Don't worry about it. We'll swim home if we have to. Condor Two out"

Ashley looked at Olivia with concern and shook her head "I can't swim"

"What?" Olivia cocked her eyebrow up "You can't swim?"

Ashley shook her head "No"

Olivia sighed "I was joking anyway, Ash" 

Ashley smiled slightly at Olivia's new nickname for her, however, she continued to worry "What- what's gonna happen to me?"

"Right now, let's just focus on getting out of here" Leon responded.

"Yeah. Right," Ashley replied, following after the two. When the three walked into a building, Ashley shivered "I'm definitely gonna catch a cold"
