The first thing she felt was the cold.
She appeared in a forest where the grass was covered with snow. The moon was high and the stars shined in the sky.
Thea looked in front of her. There was a cliff lighted by a blinding light and a blonde girl was laying on the floor looking at a manticore, a monster who had the body of a lion, the tail of a scorpion and the face of a man.
She didn't hesitate and drew out her sword as she ran towards the monster. She slashed one of the front legs of the manticore, making him roar in pain.
She stood between the monster and Annabeth, protecting her from it, and she took a glance over her shoulder to check if she was alright. That was when she noticed the two kids who were being protected by Thalia and Grover, and Percy laying on the floor a little behind Annabeth.
She heard a weird noise and turned to face the monster. Thea barely had time to raise her eyebrows in surprise, before a black spine came out of the monster's tail and cut her face.
She groaned and tried not to scream at the burning sensation it gave her. The poison spine weakened her senses, but she could still fight and use her eyes, and so she did.
She opened them and glared at the monster, who was staring at her in disbelief and anger.
"How are you not dying?! My poison is suppose to cause you intense pain!" The manticore screamed and raised his tail again to shoot another spine.
Thea dodged it with her sword and grinned at the monster.
"You're gonna need more than that" she said and attacked the manticore's side.
A battle cry sounded behind her and Annabeth ran past her with her dagger raised in the air. She stabbed him on his neck but the manticore hit her with a headbutt on the stomach and threw her to a tree.
Then, a clear, piercing sound echoed through the forest; the call of a hunting horn.
The manticore froze and for a moment no one moved.
"No" the manticore said with his eyes wide open "It cannot be-"
A glowing silver arrow flew through the air and landed on his shoulder, making him wailed in agony.
"Curse you!" The manticore cried. He unleashed his spikes, dozens of them at once, into the woods where the arrow had come from, but just as fast, silvery arrows shot back in reply. The arrows had intercepted the thorns in midair and sliced them in two, with a perfect accuracy.
Thea had trained dozens of demigods in Camp Half-Blood, and she knew for a fact that not even the best archer in Apollo's Cabin could do that. So that only left one option of who shot all of those arrows.
The Hunters
The manticore pulled the arrow out of his shoulder with a howl of pain, breathing heavily. Thea took the chance and slashed the side of the manticore.
Then the hunters came from the woods. They were a dozen of girls from ten to fourteen years old. They wore silvery ski parkas and jeans, and they were all armed with bows. They advanced on the manticore with determined expressions.
Thea decided to leave the monster up to them and walked up to Percy.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" She asked kindly as she knelt next to him.
"Yes. Just a little pain" he replied in a tense tone "Give me a moment and I'll be fine"
She brushed his shoulder and turned around to check on Thalia. She was breathing a bit heavily, but no serious injuries on sight. She was staring at Thea with her mouth opened and a confused expression on her face.
