I didn't want to leave the necklace at Riddle's door knob. I knew I should give it to him by hand because Jamie will surely regret it. Stubborn one she is. She doesn't want to admit it but she really does like him. Whether I agree with it or not is out of my hands at this point, and honestly rather hypocritical if I were to judge.
"You alright Potter?" Draco brushed my hair behind my ear. I need a haircut.
"Yeah, I just need to give this to Riddle, from my sister."
"How's it going with them?"
"Not good, this was a gift from him."
Draco put his hand out for me to give him the necklace. He stared at it for a second and laughed.
"Mattheo gave her this?"
"Yeah."
He laughed again.
"What's so funny?"
"The boy knows women, not this personal."
"What do you mean Draco?"
"Mattheo doesn't give girls anything this curated to her personality. He's been looking at her for a while now, that's very clear."
"Has he spoken to you about my sister at all?"
"He doesn't speak Potter, and even if he did he wouldn't tell us. Rather moody that one."
He readjusts his tie in the mirror, ironing it down flat with the heat from his hands.
"I should give this to him in person right?"
"For sure. He's weird with your sister. With Daphne he was very unserious. If she wanted to hook up he didn't care much if they ended up going through with it."
"Huh?"
He put his hands on my shoulders, "He didn't care if he spent time with Daphne or what they did. With your sister he just seems more alive. That's why I appreciate you making her captain, really riles him up."
"I should go then?" I checked my watch, I should be back soon to help the girls with their stuff.
"Yes yes, write to me though." He said, giving me a kiss.
"Daily."
He adjusted my glasses and gave me another kiss.
I left his dorm just to be in front of Riddle's. I didn't like making my presence too known in this common room but I'll be making an exception just this once. I looked at the necklace in my hand. The metal had lost some of its shine because of how much Jamie wore it. She paired it with almost everything and for a month she didn't even know it was from him. She finds it so hard to be open with her feelings. Like it's a burden that she feels. It's hard to let someone know that they're welcomed when they don't even want to be let inside.
I knock on the door gently. No answer. I knock again harder this time and he swings the door open slowly.
I only saw the crack of his face until he realized it was me. Then he opened the door fully. His eyes were red but not that swollen. His hair was messy and tangled. His eyes drooped like he had been asleep for years. His resting face was a frown so deep cut the ends were sewn to his chin.
"What are you doing here?" He sounded harsh.
I showed him the necklace, "You know why."
He stared at it. "That's not mine."
"She doesn't want it to be hers... at least not right now."
He was silent for a moment. "What did she say?"
"Not much, but you should fix it."
He scoffed, "I did what I did to protect her, not to hurt her."
I shoved the necklace to his chest, he gripped it from the impact before it fell. "Congratulations you failed at both."
His mouth scrunched up. I began to walk away until he called.
"Harry?"
I looked at him, a careless and cold expression.
"I love her."
My eyebrows furrowed, "That's not for me to know."
He looked panicked, "You can't tell her. Not yet."
"Why wouldn't I. She's the one who came back to her siblings in tears."
"I'm talking to you. Man to man. I've seen you sneaking out of Draco's in the middle of the night. The other guys don't notice shit but I do-"
"Are you blackmailing me Riddle?"
"No. I'm telling you that I recognize your privacy is important. Give me the same."
I clenched my fist. I could punch him in the jaw, but Jamie wouldn't approve. What matters right now is her.
"Do you mean it?"
"I won't say a word."
"No not that."
"Harry."
"Do you mean it."
"I love her. I really do."
"Prove it then." I said, storming off.
