I was ready to head to class when I heard a rather eager knock on my door. I opened it to see Nico waiting patiently outside it. He had his books in hand and a mug in the other. Since he transferred we asked the administrators if he could just have the same schedule as me since my classes were rarely filled and it'd just be more comfortable if he knew someone.
"Morning Cas! I assumed you were gonna sleep in so I went by the Great Hall and brought you a cup of coffee."
He handed it to me.
"Wow, thanks Nico you really didn't have to." I sounded so tired I was scared it'd come off as sarcastic.
"It's really no problem, I appreciate you being so accommodating so I just wanted to say thanks."
I smiled at him and grabbed my books off my desk, as well as almost completely chugging the coffee. "Shall we?"
He held his arm out for me to interlock. I took it pleasantly as we walked to our first class.
I was giving him a brief tour as we walked when I felt my books slipping from my hand.
He noticed, unlocking our arms, "Allow me to hold it. It's the least I could do."
"You're too nice Nico, it's really fine."
"Don't be so prideful it's only two books."
I shrugged and decided not to argue, handing him my books. As we continued to walk I was explaining more about the school to him when he got nudged really hard. His shoulder got pushed back so hard he almost lost his grip on the books.
Collecting himself, I noticed it was Mattheo who knocked into him.
"Hey? What's your problem?" I asked, seriously annoyed.
He just winked and shrugged, "Oops!" and continued walking off.
Nico scoffed, "Can't believe you were into that jackass..."
I felt a little guilty. I didn't think Mattheo would interpret "act civil" as "be an ass". Sure he's an ass often but he doesn't need to act like it just so no one knew we were together.
Nico sat next to me in our first class. I could barely pay attention because I was still kinda reeling from how Mattheo was acting. I need to talk to him later to really clarify what I wanted from what we're doing.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, "Hey, you alright?"
"Yeah.. I'm sorry, Mattheo was really rude, that was so not fair."
"Don't worry, I've had my share." He gave me a comforting smile.
I felt like it was obvious I couldn't shake my disappointment though.
Nico started rubbing my back in circles, "Cheer up alright? He was just being mean to be mean."
I nodded, trying to end the topic already.
"Hey, why not go out to dinner tonight? You can show me the town." He said.
I figured I could after I spoke to Mattheo, "Sure. How about at eight?"
He smiled, "That works."
...
Earlier in the day, I scribbled to Mattheo to meet me in my dorm at seven so that we could talk. He'd have to come through the window but I'm sure he'd figure it out. I happened to also get Ziggy out of the room by telling George that he should take her out. I heard a knock on the glass and saw Mattheo standing out there. I opened the window for him as he crawled in. He looked really funny but laughing at him wasn't the main priority.
He stood up straight and began to reach for my waist, "Hello gorgeous." He began to lean in.
I put my hand in front of his lips. He opened his eyes and backed away.
"What's wrong?"
"What was that today?"
"What was what?" He sat on my bed, grabbing one of my stuffed animals and playing with it.
"Don't be dumb." I grabbed it from his hands and put it on his desk.
"Well aren't you feisty tonight."
"Mattheo I'm not playing. I told you to act civil, not to be mean to my friends."
"Really you're mad at a little shoulder nudge?"
"It's not just a shoulder nudge, Mattheo." I said frustrated. I walked to my closet and started grabbing my clothes for dinner.
"Well what did you want me to do Cas, the guy was clearly flirting."
He looked at me as I began to start undressing. I motioned for him to turn.
"Cas really, I've seen you butt ass naked."
I gave him a face and made the turning motion again. He followed as I asked.
As I slipped into tights I rebutted, "He wasn't flirting Mattheo. He just got here and he's my friend. He wanted to be nice."
"Yeah by holding your books, very nice." His tone was sarcastic.
I slipped on a simple black skirt and a navy blue sweater.
"Some guys are just nice, you know... you can turn back around"
He did so and stared at me for a second as I went towards my bathroom to fix my hair, I left the door open so we could still talk.
"Where are you going?"
"Dinner." I said dryly.
"With who?"
"Nico."
He laughed, "Awe Cas he asked you on a date."
I put my hair in a ponytail and scoured for my boots. "Not a date. Just friends."
"I can't blame him, you're beautiful but he's no good at hiding a crush."
I found the first shoe and began to pull it on. "Mattheo please, he's just a friend.'
"To you yeah, you're not to him."
I grabbed the other shoe, "He's not into me like that, be serious."
"I saw the way you guys kissed last night. There's something there."
I walked around to find my jewelry. "Don't be like that now."
I found some gold earrings and started fidgeting them on.
"I'm not being like anything, I'm just saying it's kinda funny."
I went back to the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror, straightening my skirt. "Mattheo I wanted to talk to you straight and tell you to cool it okay?"
"Cas, can you sit?"
I realized I had barely looked him in the eye the whole conversation. I relaxed and sat down next to him.
"I was mean. I'll admit it. But can you just tell me if you have a thing with him?"
"I don't!" I said defensively.
He looked at me, knowing there was more to the answer.
"...That wasn't the first time we kissed, we also kissed over break."
He stood up, his hands clenched. He released.
"I knew it." He paused and took a breath. He sat back down. "That's fine."
I waited for him to say more.
"Do you still want anything with him?"
I took his hands in mine, "Mattheo, I think it's cute that you get jealous, but seriously he's just a friend."
He mumbled, "Yeah a friend you kissed..."
"Yeah and you're a friend I fucked, I feel like you're leading the race."
He laughed.
I pulled his face towards me, "We're fine. Just be a little nicer?"
He nodded and kissed me.
"Stand up." He said.
"Why?"
"I wanna look at you. Stand up."
I did so and did a little spin.
He laid back so that he was leaning backwards on his elbows.
He exhaled, "Lucky guy."
I hit him on the arm and sat on top of him.
He held onto my waist and turned us over so that he was on top of me. He kissed me slowly, backing away and looking at me.
"Maybe after you're done with your date I can give you a good time right here." He leaned in.
But I laughed and pushed him off. "Nice try, not tonight pretty boy."
He laid on his back, "I really try."
"I know."
