Bidding Goodbyes to Manila
I am holding delicately the yellow box that Adam handed me earlier at ngayon ay palabas kami ngayon sa hacienda nila dahil pagabi na din at kailangan ko ng umuwi sa dorm namin. Hindi ko na nga namalayan ang sunod-sunod na missed calls at texts saakin ni Sariah at sinasabihan na umuwi na daw ako dahil baka saraduhan ako ng gate. Masungit pa naman yung may-ari ng dorm na tinutuluyan namin at baka talagang hayaan niya lang ako matulog sa labas.
"Do you have plans tomorrow?" Adam said unexpectedly as we walked silently across their garden.
Napaisip naman ako kung ano ang schedule ko bukas at mga kailangan kong gawin lalo na ay patapos na ang OJT ko next week.
Shit.
"A-ahm siguro lab works ulit tapos tutulong din ako sa pag-aayos ng inventories. Hindi ako sure kung masasamahan kita bukas." Malungkot na sabi ko pa sakanya.
Bakit ko nakalimutan sabihin sakanya na next week na matatapos ang OJT ko? Kapag natapos ang OJT ko ay kailangan ko na bumalik sa Pampanga dahil mag-eexam pa ako at iikot pa kami sa ibang ospital para makakuha pa ng experience.
Pero paano ko sasabihin sakanya?
"It's okay, Eve. Priorities first, okay?" He said as he gently patted and caressed my head, making my heart melt.
Huminga muna ako ng malalim bago sabihin sakanya ang dapat na sinabi ko kanina pa.
"Adam," Bigla akong kinabahan nang ang buong atensyon niya ay inilipat niya saakin. "Matatapos na OJT ko next week. N-nakalimutan ko sabihin sayo kanina pero plano ko talaga siya sabihin sayo." Nakita ko kung paano nag-iba bigla ang ekspresyon ng kanyang mga mata kaya mas lalo akong kinakabahan sa harapan niya. "Uuwi na akong Pampanga next week, agad-agad iyon."
He inhaled deeply, and then stared down before returning his attention to me. I've seen his eyes shift from admiration to feelings of longing.
"Why are you looking upset while telling me that your OJT is over?" He said as he stopped walking, making me stop as well. He then pulled me into a warm embrace, and I can feel the warmth of his breathing on my skin as he laid his head against my neck, causing shivers throughout my body. "I am very proud of you because you have proven how good, deserving, skillful, and smart you are as a student intern. Don't be sad just because I found out you're returning to Pampanga. Even if you're a thousand miles away, I'll come see you no matter how exhausted I am. As long as I can see those beautiful smiles on your face, I can say that I'm already recharged because you're my little energy booster." Naramdaman ko ang paghigpit niya sa kanyang yakap kaya hinigpitan ko din ang yakap ko sakanya.
I even tiptoed to match his height, and as I covered my face with his warm chest, I could feel our hearts beating in unison and our connection to one another.
I solely love his warmth, his scent, his presence. Everything feels like home to me.
"You know that I already know that someone from your batch was bullying and blackmailing you using our pictures, right?"
Bigla kong itinapat ang ulo ko paharap sakanya kaya naalis ang pagkakapahinga ng kanyang ulo saaking leeg.
Alam ko naman na hindi papalagpasin ni Hya ito at alam ko din na balang-araw ay malalaman din ito ni Adam.
"I'm sorry you went through that, sweetie.. You protected me without me knowing that you had been carrying too much burden only to protect my reputation. I should have known sooner that I could have helped you." Malungkot na tono niyang sabi na para bang naguguilty siya sa nangyari saaming dalawa ni Julia.
