"Kathlene, why don't we do to down to 4 Leaf Clover for an late lunch?" James suggested and they walked out to his waiting car and driver. "Wonderful idea, let me call my cousin to have a table saves for us." She pulled out her phone and called Bady. "Brady, I wanted to see if you could reserve a table for me and a friends to ship by for lunch..... thanks cousin, please come over and say hello if you are not that business."
In the car on the way to the restaurant Kathleen filled James in on her mother's and brother Liam's plan for the upcoming week. James listened as she spoke and was beaming with pride over his best friend, finally being ready for the recognition from her family and the public in on all her acclamations in life. He new Kathleen was anxious about the Bar results that should be coming in today and was trying to distract her.
They pulled up to and the driver came around and left them out. He had convinced Kathleen to wear out of the store a mid-length summer skirt and blouse and hand had and matching shoes giving of a semi upscale business vibe that suited her. The hottest who knew him from requesting the restaurant greeted him and seemed to dismissed Kathleen which he did not like. He knew she was not well known outside her family by sign, but she had come to 4 Leaf Clover with some of her family before in the past. It appears that people assumed she was no one and forgot about her as quickly as she came. Not wanting to make a scene his pushed down these thoughts and followed the hostess to the reserved table to them in the VIP section. He knew that as of next week people would remember his best friends and be tripping over themselves to please her soon enough.
They ordered drinks (a lemonade for Katie as she was still underage). Just as Brady was coming up behind him just asked Katie, "please tell me you will accompany me to this evening's Art gallery and charity event I need someone there I can talk to without feeling like a piece of meat." It was not a question, but a plea. He had been begging her to attend events with her for a couple of years, but since she was so dedicated to school and preferred to remain in the shadows of her family she always declined. How she had no excuse and with James at her side she would make this first step without the overbearing males in her family. "Ok James I would like to be your date tonight. Mother will love it even more." She said and looked up to a scowling Brady.
"Clover it so nice of you to come for a visit." Brady said while hugging her. In her ear he whispered, "who the hell is this guy and since when do you date".
Katie rolled her eyes so James could see, and she was sure he knew what her cousin had said. "Brady this is James Murphy my best friend and you would know that if any of you made any attempt to get to know me more. James has been my friend since we were 16 years old." She scolded her cousin and did not feel the slightest bit of remorse as she watched him cringe. She knew she was partly to blame for the lack of relationship with her cousin and brothers, but knew she needed to make a statement and raise her voice. "Princess ...." He started.
"Brady darling there you are I was hoping you would come out to see me." Sarah Williams said as she walked up to the table and all but pushed Kathleen aside to hug Brady who looked less than thrilled at the attention.
"Can't you see we were having a conversation. It's in pore taste to interrupt" James said standing up. No liking that her own cousin or that Katie was standing up for herself.
Sarah Williams was a trust fund brat and spoiled by her Father Sean Williams the owner and CEO of Williams Construction, a public traded company who was currently seeking investments from Fitzgerald Enterprise. He was big in the industry and well known and his wife Mary Williams was a social deva, and it was easy to see where Sarah got her manners from.
"Who do you think you are talking to?" Sarah said before looking up and seeing James. "Oh, sorry James, I did not notice it was you. How are you doing? You know daddy has been asking when you will be coming over for dinner one of these nights." She said will a smile. Kathleen through the Williams must be either trying to get business from James or set him up with their daughter. She cringed at the through of either. She looked over in Kathleen's direction and then flung her hear back as she continued to talk to the two men like Kathleen was not even there. She also did not let the men interrupt her as she continued to talk bout needing a date to the gallery even tonight.
"Excuse me Ms. Williams you are being rude." Kathleen said stepping to the size to look at Sarah. "James, Brand and I were in the middle of a private conversation which you interrupted so I am going to kindly ask you to leave us." Brady looked pleased and smiled. While Bradly looked at his cousin as if seeing her for the sophisticated women she was.
"As for the even this evening I have date with the lovely Kathleen" James took pride is saying and seeing the irritation in Sarah's eyes at being so easily dismissed.
"While I will be attending the event, I am escorting my lovely aunt" Brady quickly stated before Sarah could turn again to him. He was stealing glances at Katie and James wondering if they were a couple. He needed to talk to his brothers and cousin about Katie and this James fellow. He was glad to see that James had no qualms about standing up for her though. It was a point in James's favor.
Sarah just stared as if she could not believe she was being turned down and being dismissed. She turned to Kathleen. "Just who do you think you are talking to me like that and embarrassing me?" Sarah said in Kathleen's face.
Kathleen having decided it was enough turned to her cousin and said, "Brady I think it's about time to call security over and have them escort Ms. Williams out?"
Brady just lifter his hand and gestures over and member of his security employed by his brother at O & F Security came over and took Ms. Williams are and said told her not to make a sense and to go with him. They all watched as Sarah did not say a word, being intimidated by the large security guy, but glaring daggers at Kathleen.
"Well, she is a gem." Kathleen said with a heavy note of sarcasm. James and Brady both burst out laughing. It took about five minutes to compose themselves. Brady had to excuse himself to attend to something in the kitchen and promised to see Kathleen at the event tonight.
James and Kathleen ordered and ate their meal with no more interruptions. James commented on how he likes the new confidante her. Kathleen had to admit she liked this new her too and just hoped that her family felt the same way because she would not go back to being the shy bookworm.
James escorted Kathleen to the car and his driver drove to the Fitzgerald estate. "James, do you know a good real estate agent to recommend. I walk to start looking for my own home and move out. It's time. We are just friends and you saw how Brady was with you. Wait until his brothers and mine all see me out. I would like to be able to go on a real date at some point and even be able to entertain the idea of a relationship."
"Yeah, I can see that going well. You invite some poor guy over for dinner and then all eight of them decide to come over and visit you and your mother" he said chuckling. "Yes, my realtor Carol and her husband Justin are the best in the city. Do you want me to set up an appointment with this for later this week?" James asked while reaching for his phone.
"No, if you could message them to expect a call from me and send me their information, I will call them myself".
He sent off a message to Justin and then message her the details just as they were pulling up to the house.
