(Drew POV)
As a pull into the funeral home I see my mom getting out of the car with a bunch of teenagers, part of me wondered if one of these girls could be Kylee I mean I had been years since I had seen her I was only nine and she was five so she could be anyone of theses girls around here. I park my car beside moms and get out just as she makes her way around to my car, "Oh Drew I'm so glad you made it I have missed you," she says as she pulls me into a hug. "Mom I have only been gone a month, and of course I'm here the Morgan's were like family to us and I want to be here to support you and Kylee," I tell her honestly. "Let's go find a place to sit," mom says to me as she begins leading the way into the funeral home.
It wasn't long after we took our seats that I see my brother walk in holding hands with a girl. She was almost unrecognizable to me but the way my heart spread up when my eyes locked with her I just knew it was Kylee, the same girl I used to couldn't wait to see every day but I could tell she wasn't the same girl I use to know because she was consumed by so much sadness and pain. Almost as quick as her eyes locked with mine she averted them back to the ground and from that moment on I just kept an eye on her, watching as people kept going up and talking to her but not once did she make eye contact with any of them.
The funeral had been over about an hour and everyone was gathered at our house to eat at hang out, I just kept my self seated in a spot so that I was able to keep Kylee in my sights at all time. "Hey bro when did you get here," I her Carter say to me as he came up beside me. "Oh I got here a few minutes before the funeral started," I tell him as I try to look around him for Kylee. "Oh ok I guess I just missed you then, have you had a chance to see Kylee yet," he ask me causing me to look at him with questioning eyes. "No I haven't why," I ask curious to why he wanted to know. "Well I have seen you watching her all day, and I think you need to stop before you scare her," he says with an angry glare. "I'm not going to scare her I'm just trying to watch out for her," I say rolling my eyes at his angry stare. "Drew she doesn't need you watching out for her because I have been taking care of her and you just need to back off and leave her alone," he tells me pointing his finger in my face. Slapping his hand away I get up in his face, "you don't tell me what I need to do, I will watch out for her if I want to." "Boys what in the world are you fighting about," I here mom say as she steps in-between us. "It's nothing just coming to terms about Kylee," Carter says giving me a death glare. "Well you two need to stop fighting and get along for Kylee's sake because the last thing she needs is for her to here you two fighting over her," she said angrily. "Yes mam," we both said in unison. "Good now that you both are done fighting, Drew you need to go find Kylee she took off out the front door about twenty minutes ago and nobody has seen he since," she says before heading back to the crowd of people.
After riding around for what seemed like forever I finally spotted Kylee laying on a bench at the local park with was a good ways from our house. "Kylee are you ok," I call out to her as I get out of my car and into the heavy rain. She didn't answer me or get up so I ran to her and placed a hand on her cheek, "your burning up," I say to her before picking her shivering body up into my arms and begin taking her to my car. As I lay her into the back seat I see her open her eyes for just a second before closing them again. I place my jacket over her body and then get into the front seat of the car and call my mom before I head back to the house. "Mom I found Kylee but she is really sick, she's soaking wet, burning up with fever and she is shivering so bad," I say to her through the phone. "Just bring her home honey I have already sent everybody home and I will call Dr. Brown who lives a couple houses down from us to come check her out," she says before hanging up on me to call the doctor.
I get home, get Kylee out of the car and rush her inside to the nearest room which happened to be mine and laid her down on the bed. "Ok look I need you to go get Kylee some dry clothes and put some towels into the dryer to warm them up for her," Dr. Brown says to my mom before turning to me to say, "Drew I need you to go out there and wait while I check her out." Not really wanting to leave but also not wanting to be in his way I decided to do what I was told and go outside the room door and wait. After siting outside the door for almost and hour Dr. Brown finally came out. "What's wrong with her," I ask with concern in my voice. "Well I think she just got a serous cold from being out in the rain to long but just in case I would like her to come into the clinic in a couple days and let me do some blood work on her, because a healthy person should have gotten sick so quick," he says to me and my mom before heading towards the door. "Thank you doctor for coming and checking on her," my mom says as she lets him out the door. I decide to go in and check on Kylee, so I open the door to find her siting up in bed awake. "Hey I don't know if you will remember me or not," I start to say but was cut off by her saying, "your Drew, I recognized you when I seen you at the funeral." "Ok, well how are you feeling?" I ask as I slowly make my way to the bed. "I'm tired but I feel better now that I'm warm and don't have a fever anymore," she says with a small smile. "That's good you had me worried their for awhile," I says as I sit on the bed beside her. "I'm sorry about that I didn't mean to scare anyone I just couldn't take being around all of those people anymore so I ran out and then I got lost," she says shrugging her shoulders. Before I knew what I was doing I found myself leaning into her but just as my lips were about to touch hers she spoke, "Drew I have a boyfriend." I pull away from her feeling a pinch of sadness in my heart. "Oh," I say as I stand up and begin to leave the room. "Can't we still be friends though?" She ask with a hint of disappointment in her voice. I turn around to answer her, "of course we can." Even though what I said was true, my heart was saddened at the thought of her being with someone else.
