Maddox watched as Ryder and a few other pack members walked towards him.

"What's up man?" Ryder asks.

Nodding his head at him and everyone else, Maddox really wasn't in the mood for any kind of interaction with anyone, even his best friend. That's why he had been off by himself, he just simply did not want to be bothered.

As of late, everything and everyone had seemed to annoy him. Why? He honestly had no clue, but staying away had made him feel so much better. Only person he could tolerate for an extended amount of time was his father.

Seeing the group of people let him know that he clearly wasn't over whatever rut that he had been stuck in for the past few months. His irritation climbed rapidly as one of the females, Danielle, decided to sit right next to him, close enough to where they were brushing against one another with the slightest movement.

"Are you ready to become Alpha?" Danielle asks him.

It was taking everything in him not to snap. Her fruity breath and coconut perfume practically choked him as he shrugged his shoulders. "There's no rush." He responded.

"And your mate?" Her question made his wolf rush forward. It's the fact that he always knew she had a thing for him, but he never gave her any indication that he was interested.

His wolf had been just as agitated and restless, he wanted his mate, and someway, somehow he knew that she was not in the Mountain Ridge pack. "What about her? She's not here yet."

"Maddox!" He heard his father call out.

Mason watched as his son made his way towards him without even saying anything to his friends. He had been keeping an eye on Maddox and noticed how withdrawn he had been, which was not like him.

Hands stuffed in his pockets, Maddox followed closely behind his father, taking a seat in front of his desk after entering his office.

"Alright, I've been waiting for you to come to me with whatever has been bothering you. Seeing as it's been months and you still haven't, I need you to tell me what's going on Maddox."

Maddox could tell that his dad was genuinely concerned and it upset him that he couldn't give him an answer. He knew what was troubling his wolf, but he didn't know about him.

Settling for another shrug of his shoulders he immediately heard his father say, "Well, I guess we'll sit here till you figure it out." before leaning back and propping his feet up on his desk not cutting off eye contact with him.

.....

"What?" Maddox asks, the confusion clear on his face.

Amora slowly moved her eyes over to him before saying, "I don't know. Since waking up at the hospital she's been quiet."

Maddox sat up next to her, also knowing that it was unusual. He had heard her wolf go on and on about him, food, and running for hours.

Neither knowing that he's been able to occasionally hear their conversations. It wasn't like he was trying to and it would happen very randomly. He simply thought that she was allowing him to hear her thoughts.

"The last time we weren't able to communicate was when my father forced it. I have no idea what's happening."

Seeing her stress upset him greatly and he immediately went to comfort her. "Hey, we'll figure it out, okay?" He says while pushing her hair out of her face again.

The eye contact and confidence in his voice actually settled her nerves as she nodded in response. Looking down at Maddox's chest, down at herself, and then to the spot she had been laying in, Amora let out a slight squeak.
