It had been three days since everything with Celeste. Maddox hadn’t exactly been avoiding Amora, but their interactions had been very limited. She knows that he has something he wants to say, but has yet opened his mouth to do so.

Giving him his space was what she chose to do. And she couldn’t stand it!

Besides the quiet good morning and good night, there was nothing else said. She would still find herself cradled in his arms in the middle of the night, but as soon as his eyes popped open in the morning he was gone.

The first two days that she had woken up, it was quiet. On the third morning her wolf was back and incredibly vocal.

She had been flipping back and forth between being sad and upset. The situation with Maddox had only fueled the flame and her wolf was making sure how she felt was known.

While she was absent she could still see and hear everything that was going on.

If she could avoid Sandra altogether, only because she’s Maddox’s mother, then she would. But Danielle? She wouldn’t feel any regret or remorse whenever it came down to it.

Amora just kept as quiet as she could. She knew her wolf wouldn’t stop until she had gotten it all out. And allowing her to run had surely helped a lot.

After running for an hour or so, she had finally calmed down long enough to see reason. Now, she was silent. Amora had showered, got dressed, and made her way to the kitchen for food and she still hadn’t said anything else.

“Good morning!” Amora says as Mason enters the kitchen. “You’re just in time for breakfast!”

“Good morning! Happy I brought my appetite.” He responds before taking a seat. “Is Maddox not joining you?”

Amora shook her head no as she slid him a cup of coffee. “Did he already eat or something?”

Taking a few sips of her tea, Amora chuckled before turning to him, “You know he did, just not with me.”

Mason couldn’t say what was going through Maddox’s mind, but he did see a change in his behavior over the last few days.

Whenever Amora opened her mouth to say something, someone would walk by and she’d change her mind.

“Would you like to go for a walk?” Seeing her nod, Mason quickly finished his breakfast before they made their way out of the packhouse.

Everyone wanted to stop Mason and talk to him, clearly understandable, but seeing Amora next to him made them choose otherwise.

Which Mason had noticed. “Maddox doesn’t want me to say anything, but this is just ridiculous! I want to apologize on Sandra’s behalf. She hasn’t made it easy for anyone.”

Amora shook her head at his words before saying, “Don’t. Her vendetta against me isn’t something I’m taking personally. Only thing I don’t like is how she talks to Maddox. Say whatever you want, to or about me, but he’s too good of a person for someone, especially his own mother, to talk down to him the way she does.”

Mason agreed with her one hundred percent. He still didn’t understand what was really the problem. Them being true mates kept him from approaching the situation like he had been advised to.

Not wanting to dwell on that for too long, Amora changed the subject when they came to a stop in front of the training field.

Yet again, her attention was drawn to the swords. “Your weapons?”

“You like those?” Mason asks with a giant smile. “They’re locally made. I could get something specially made for you if you want?”

Mason couldn’t help but laugh as she nodded enthusiastically.

“There aren’t many women out here.” Amora says after doing a quick scan.

“Well, of course not.” Was his immediate response.

With narrowed eyes, she turned to him and said, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I won’t say that men are superior to women, but when it comes to strength and speed. Well, you know?”

Amora laughed loudly at his words. “I know that those two things are useless if there is no strategy. I could take down your strongest and fastest men within minutes. Without breaking a sweat, and with no magic.” She challenges with her hands on her hips.

“Maddox would kill me if you were to get hurt.” He says while shaking his head.

“Nothing that won’t heal. And he won’t even be able to land a hit hard enough to do any damage.”

“My son surely has his hands full with you.”

She had been trying to keep from asking, but Mason and Maddox were so much alike she just couldn’t stop thinking about him. “How is he?” She asked quietly.

Mason noticed how quickly her mood changed and shook his head. “Fine, somewhere being a damn idiot.”

“No, I shouldn’t have assumed that he’d be okay with everything. I’ve never had to consider someone else’s feelings when it came to me and all my baggage. It’s always been just my wolf and I until now.”

“You’re his mate! Goddess only knows how Sandra drives me completely nuts, but it’s worth it when it’s the one that you're destined to be with.”

He gave off that ‘let’s talk about it, it’ll all be fine’ vibe, which was why it didn’t surprise her when she began to spill everything that she had learned from Celeste. Him asking questions as she explained made her much more comfortable talking to him.

As she finished, Mason had started to shake his head again. “Honestly, that just makes it even worse! You heard those things at the same time as him. If he feels like he can’t do anything physically to help you, that emotional and mental support would mean just as much.”

“He knows how important communication is. If he would’ve just sat down and talked to you we wouldn’t even be having this conversation right now.”

“If he needs time away from me I can’t be upset about it. I haven’t done anything except add more to his already full plate since I got here.”

Mason held his hand up to stop her. “The Moon Goddess wouldn’t have placed you two together if he couldn’t handle it. We talk things out over here, I don’t get why you’re being so nice about this.”

“The bond between mates is not something you throw away. You do know that he’s not going to leave or let you go right?” He asks.

Amora looked away from him trying not to choke. Mason had taken it there and she hadn’t expected him to.

He could see how torn up she was about them not talking and it only made him angry. “How about this, don’t go to your room tonight. If you’ve been there every night before him, he’ll be on edge when you’re not. If I know my son the way I think I do, he won’t be able to focus on anything else until he finds you. Then he won’t have any choice but to talk about it.”

“And if he doesn’t look for me?”

A slow grin stretched across his face before saying, “Then I’ll gladly kick his ass myself!”
