“Are you sure she’s your real mate? There is no way I’d be okay with mine walking around without my mark with so many unmated males around.” Says Lucas.
Maddox had no reason to get upset at what he said. He had thought about that long ago, but it was pointless for him to stress over it because he knew Amora. “And all of those unmated males are damn terrified to approach her. No room for uncertainty here!” He ends with a giant grin.
“Aren’t Luna’s supposed to be approachable?” Lucus continues.
“You’re saying that like you’ve had a good example of one. We were both born and raised here. We all dealt with Sandra, and she continues to surprise, does she not?” Liam says, interrupting his brother.
Maddox nodded his head agreeing with Liam before responding. “Besides their gender, she and Amora are nothing, and I mean nothing alike. It’s not her fault that people are judging her for what she is and not what type of person she is.”
“That’s your mate, your opinion is biased. It’s just unsettling that I have the urge to submit to her. You can feel her before she makes her presence known and with the nonstop whispering I know that I’m not the only one that has the feeling.”
The three men suddenly fell silent, Maddox quickly glanced at Lucas before looking at the papers scattered across his desk. He really wasn’t retaining anything that he was reading, it was something else for him to look at as his thoughts raced.
“Maybe my mother was finally right about something. Amora will never stand as Luna for this pack.” Liam and Lucas both looked at Maddox with wide eyes. “Alpha’s insist that their mate shouldn’t be on the training field and it only cripples them. Amora didn’t have any other choice but to fight and with her abilities she has an advantage over everyone. Myself included”
“So no, Luna is not a position that she’d be fit for.” Sitting back in his chair with a small smile playing on his lips, he continues, “More like, Alpha female.”
……...
"Tell your mate to control her fucking pets! I don't know what kind of spell she has you under, but you need to open your damn eyes and see what the hell she's been doing!" Ryder says after bursting through the double doors.
If looks could kill Ryder would've become a pile of ash where he stood. Maddox had been ready to snap at his Beta, but Amora's hand on his thigh stopped him.
"I have no clue as to what you're talking about. I know you're very hesitant to trust me, you have your reasons I'm sure, but watch how you talk to my mate. Your Alpha!" Amora says without taking her eyes off of him.
Pulling his shirt up, there were two bruise-like hand prints, one on his stomach and the other on his chest right above his heart. "Who else could have done this then?"
Hearing the gasps, Maddox simply glanced and then continued to eat his food.
Amora sat looking at Maddox waiting for him to side with his Beta, but it never came.
"Well there's your proof Maddox!" His mother says to him.
"Amora didn't do that." He says.
"She's obviously controlling him! How can you know that?" His mother spat, making Maddox let out a low growl.
"I know because since she's been here I've been able to hear almost every thought in her head. As well as her wolf's." His words made Amora’s cheeks burn.
"You have?"
Maddox looked to his mate to see her trying to hide her heated cheeks and let a smirk slip onto his lips. "I have. And I'm absolutely elated about the things I've heard. Know that the way you feel is not one-sided love." He says before grabbing and placing a kiss on the palm of her hand with his eyes still locked with hers.
Amora was completely stunned. Stuck. Her and her wolf began to fight for control. Jumping on him while sitting in a full dining room was something her wolf didn't mind doing.
"You'll let your guard slip for a slight second and that's all I'll need Amora. Look at him! We should thank the Goddess everyday for this man! I'm sure he tastes as good as he looks. What? Do you want to stay pure for your whole life? We're here, he's here, what are we waiting for? Let's gooooo!" Says her wolf trying to push herself forward.
Watching as his smirk widened, she knew that her internal battle was not going unheard, and he loved everything that she and her wolf wanted to do with him.
"Stop it!" She says while pushing his hands away from her.
Letting out a loud laugh at his mate's frustration, he turned and saw that everyone in the room had their eyes on them.
"Why would she hurt the same people that she's trying to protect? Nobody here has tried to get to know her, but everybody has an opinion right? Right, the things that have been said to her and about her when you think she's not around? I know of it all. But for some reason she hasn't come to me with any of it.”
“Even though you all act as if she's some kind of disease. She has made it so much easier for you and you've done nothing but disrespect her. And yet she's still here." Seeing that nobody would even make eye contact with either one of them Maddox let out a humorless chuckle.
"It's sad that she's up at the ass crack of dawn every morning to make breakfast that none of you have a problem eating. Managed to create a garden that thrives in the winter, when everyone here knows how hard that is to maintain.”
“Walks the perimeter twice a week to check the shield that she also created, and since then we’ve been able to have more warriors on the field to help train the newly shifted pups. And this is the thanks she gets." He adds while shaking his head.
"It's fine Maddox. I understand. Majority of the people here only have been told tales about witches. They don't know the real truth, not about me at least. I'm not going to try to force them to accept me, neither should you. I'm content as long as I have you, they'll come around on their own terms." Says Amora.
Maddox couldn't help but to stare at his mate as her voice flowed through his head. He knew that she cared about what they thought of her, the way she sat with her eyes on her lap as she projects her thoughts to him said it all.
It ate him up that these were the same people who preached to him about mates and how important they were, though they didn't need to, were the same ones hurting his.
"If I have even the smallest inkling that someone has upset my mate, there will be severe consequences, doesn't matter the relation. I am so disappointed with this pack, something that I never thought I would be saying about the people I am supposed to stand with and lead." Maddox says while leaning back in his chair.
"Get out. I would like to finish the dinner my mate made in peace."
"Maddox," Says Amora "Don't. Let them stay, I'll go. I'm done eating anyways." Maddox snapped his head towards her as she stood to leave.
Looking at her plate, he felt like she just pushed her food around to make it look like she actually did eat. "Don't make me force you to eat."
Amora watched him as he kept his eyes on her plate, before she could even think to move from the table, she was being pulled down onto his lap. "Eat!"
"I'm not hungry."
Moving one of his arms from around her waist, he scooped up some potatoes from his plate and pushed it against her lips.
"Are you serious? This is so embarrassing, Maddox stop! I told you I'm not hungry." Amora says to him.
"Do you want the train, a plane? I can even try a car or a bus if that's what you want sweetheart."
"I'm not a baby Maddox. Stop with your shit." Maddox waited for the perfect time to push the food into her mouth and smiled, feeling accomplished.
