Danny slowly helped Maddox stuff his suitcases into his truck that was already full from his souvenirs that he had collected over the years that he had been there.
They were completely silent, neither was ready to say goodbye to the other. Danny loved Maddox like he was actually his son.
Maddox’s presence had slightly lessened the pain from not having any children with his deceased mate.
The reason for Maddox being there didn’t sit well with him, but he could completely understand him needing to get away. Sandra and Danny were from the same pack. So he knew what type of person she truly was.
She had always been an ill-natured person. Since the majority of her family was the same way, it wasn’t a surprise. Only person Danny had witnessed Sandra being somewhat nice to is Mason. If they weren’t mates, he knows for a fact that Mason wouldn’t be dealing with her shit.
“So you’ll be following right behind me, yea?” Maddox asks, finally breaking the silence.
Danny chuckled as he shook his head, Maddox had been trying to convince him to come back ever since he decided that it was time for him to return home.
“And be swarmed with petty drama? No thanks.”
“Hmm, I’ll pretend I didn’t hear you say no. So I’ll be seeing you soon, yea?”
Now Danny was actually laughing. This is Mason’s son all the way. “I realized years after being friends with your dad that he would say yes after things, because it gave you less room to say no. And now you’re doing the same.”
“Well did it work?” Maddox asks with a grin.
Danny grumbled as he said, “I’ll be visiting soon enough. Smug little shit.”
……
“It's open.” Maddox calls out. “You know you don’t have to knock, right?”
Amora quickly waddled into his office with a stack of boxes. “It’s polite.”
Maddox chuckled as he took them from her and placed them on the table. “What’s all this?”
“So! I remembered that you said there were a few rooms that you wanted to clean out and while I love my plants, I’ve started to feel like an old lady that only cares about her garden. I needed a change.”
He slowly shook his head as he opened the first box. “You don’t have to clean up, I’ll do it.”
With a scrunched up face, Amora says, “What do you mean? If you’re busy and I’m completely able, then I should do it. Plus, I have nothing to do.”
“When am I ever”
Amora quickly cut him off, “You can’t be serious right now. You have the most important job here! The least I can do is move a few things so you don’t have to.”
“You're talking like you don’t have a job.” Seeing her tilt her head he continued, “Putting yourself first is your main responsibility, doing random pop ups during the day allowing me to see your beautiful face, and last but the most essential for my sanity, is for you to be available when I need to cuddle.”
Maddox watched as she turned and started to pull things out the box. “That was so lame.” She says quietly.
He paid no attention to her words, but he knew that even though he couldn’t see the blush covering her chocolate cheeks, she didn’t know how to take compliments so she would hide her face from him.
